What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machine escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds. The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fuelled by over four thousand years of total war. This is a fight to the death. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the complete elimination of the other.

Realistically, a large part of the population (especially third-world countries) would be left behind by this kind of technological advancement. A lot of people would still die because they can't afford immortality or don't want to have it. I would also assume that in most cases, those who are made immortal are also rendered unable to reproduce (at least in the traditional sense).

Paul's training for longevity vs 2045-project.
Who do you think will win?

This is a great articlle thanks for posting it up here.
Immortality is a greedy persons notion because if one was to be immortal others could not live in your place.
Also this totally made me think of FMA.

Paul, obviously. Immortality is a greedy persons notion because if one was to be immortal others could not live in your place.
Never thought of it like that before. An interesting way to think about it, but is it really greed when you've not technically taken anything away from anyone else, due to them not actually existing?

I don't know where you are getting that faster than light thing from, that would be impossible. never mind the absurd difficulty it would take to find another civilization and the impossible distances, you would spend a lot of time traveling and looking and finding nothing. that doesn't really sound like fun. you would more than likely go insane and kill yourself.

These things are not possible right now but as the time will go on, we will get to know more and more and maybe in a few tens or hundreds of years we will be able to do all this stuff.

There are limitation to the physical worlds and there are also limtations to humanity, nothing ensure us we wil be able to achieve a lot more than we have today. Ever.

I chose second option. Personally I think that it is indeed possible that we could have immortality sometime around 2050 if everything goes perfectly right. But it is just chance, not guaranteed. Also, I don't count mind uploading as immortality since it will result just another instance of me. Oh c'mon. We know almost nothing about the universe, about how it works. These things are not possible right now but as the time will go on, we will get to know more and more and maybe in a few tens or hundreds of years we will be able to do all this stuff. We know enough about universe to say that things you suggest are most likely either impossible or out of our reach for thousands of years. Then again I don't agree with Pompipompi on There are limitation to the physical worlds and there are also limtations to humanity, nothing ensure us we wil be able to achieve a lot more than we have today. Ever. . If we can avoid full-scale nuclear war I think we indeed have a glorious future ahead of us since there is still a lot of potential in human race.
