Added a trigger on a floorplate... might need some levers, too.

Man this is looking great. What's the gameplay going to be like? Something like La-Mulana?

This. Looks. Amazing.
How are you maintaining the VIC restrictions on the programming side? Or is it just an art decision?
Really looking forward to playing.

I'm getting a huge nostalgia rush from this. Reminds me of Montezuma's Revenge on Atari. Can't wait to explore!

Liking the look of this. The rope physics looks like it would be fun.

Update: keys and gates are working now... @Ashkin: There're puzzles with switches, jump & run parcours and evil creatures. You have to dig in the sand, use dynamite to open hidden passages and collect treasures. Anything else you want to see there? But better don't compare it with games like La-Mulana, because it's small: only 3 objects (whip, gun, dynamite) and only about 40 screens @happymonster: Yes, I saw a gameplay video of Joe Gunn at youtube. Really charming. But Pharaohs Return has faster gameplay, more like Pharaohs Curse or... (@Ben H: yes) Montezumas Revenge. @dukope: I have chosen the C64 limitations, because I thought I would need less time for drawing and programming. (unfortunately, I was wrong) About the C64 restrictions: - 16 predefined colors: I am only using these colors.
- 256 background blocks, each block either 8x8 pixels with one color or 4x8 widepixels with 3 colors (but the 2 additional colors are fixed): I made a check program for the tilemaps which counts the used blocks for a screen and checks the colors of the blocks for sanity.
- 8 sprites in a row: I am only using 8 sprites in total, except in the title picture and in bossfights, here I am using 3 rows of 8 sprites, that's ok, too.
- sound: music and effects will be composed using goattracker and replayed with libresid or libsidplay (haven't decided, yet)
You can read more about Pharaohs Return and the C64 restrictions in the pixelation thread of Pharaohs Return.

Rats and scorpions seem to be quite big in Egypt... @johnki: Cool, then half of my mission is already accomplished...

Hmm... Bat are deadly, right? Or do they just steal hats? Or maybe they like to grab objects and drop them elsewhere.

"the descent" Yes, the project is still alive. Time to do a preview. Either a trailer or a gameplay demo, what's better?
