Um, well, if you drink too many a day, you can get an heart attack or something I think? Plus, they have high amounts of sugar.

Otherwise they're not that dangerous, it's an alternative if you need to wake up and don't like coffee, just make sure you don't drink 6+ cans (Or less if they have a higher caffeine amount than ordinary energy drinks) a day and/or drink it too often unless you exercise enough to make up for the sugar intake.

The only thing I would do is a 5 Hour Energy so when I'm on the road, I won't have a crash in the next five hours.

The main danger of most energy drinks is the high amount of caffeine, and to a lesser extent the large amount of sugar. Energy drinks don't contain much more caffeine than coffee, but they tend to be easier to drink in large quantities, making them a little more dangerous. However, the potential for overdose is still relatively small, unless you drink more than two or three at a time.

Other than that, I imagine the health dangers are similar to drinking too much soda or anything which contains large amounts of sugar, namely increased risk for diabetes and heart disease. As well as the potential for gaining lots of weight.

Drinking too much caffeine might disrupt your sleeping pattern and make the caffeine less effective for keeping you awake (the body gets used to it). As others have pointed out, it also has a lot of sugar, but that's a general diet issue. Energy drink (as well as cola, not sure which ingredient causes it) also slowly destroys your tooth enamel; the destructiveness depends on how long the energy drink remains in contact with your teeth (including the tiny amount that remains in your mouth after drinking). This effect can be avoided by either drinking through a straw (so the drink ends up in the back of your mouth without touching your teeth) or rinsing the mouth with water directly after drinking the energy drink or cola.

As with all things, "All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; only the dose permits something not to be poisonous." Nothing bad will happen as long as you drink it in moderation.

I used to drink energy drinks occasionally to get some boost with work but I gave up them since some hours after drinking I always got restless and sometimes a bit anxious. I suppose I can't handle much caffeine. Nowadays I drink mostly tea and sometimes a cup of coffee.

Redbull turns your blood into syrup, so yes. You can tell because your limbs "fall asleep" much quicker and are harder to wake up. Also there are reports of athletes dying from drinking too much, but of course there may have been underlying issues in the first place so eh..

i've never actually tried an energy drink so i've no idea if they're healthy or not but my guess would be that they are composed similar to soda, right? just more caffeine? so it stands to reason that because soda is bad for you energy drinks would also be bad for you (but probably not much worse for you than soda is, which is already really really bad)

If you don't drink one (or more) every day than you should be ok. If you drink it just occassionally then there's no problem.

Very, very, very bad for you. Just stop drinking it altogether. The caffeine content is ridiculous, and mixed with the high dose of sugar the effects are even worse. Soda is bad enough for you, let alone these energy drinks. Hard on your system, and makes you crash, which in turn begins a cycle of dependency on these drinks to keep you on the up and up. High caffeine consumption is also bad for sexual function.

Drink coffee or tea like a man, approx. 1-2 cups a day, with no sugar (maybe a little).

I know someone who drank 4 five-hour-energy's at once for a dollar. A dollar. A single dollar. He ended up getting an erection that lasted for 6 hours or so. He had to call the viagra number for the 4-hour-boner. Not to mention almost having a heart attack.

Same guy dipped his wiener in the pool (back when planking was the thing) in the middle of winter, for 60 seconds, just to get a double cheeseburger from mcdonalds.
