You can't trash talk Nights and list Guardian Heroes.

Dude u_u, Guardian Heroes is a mandatory Saturn title.

I think opinion has split over time on GH.  Lotta folk still swear by it, but there are a bunch of people like me who think it's kinda humdrum.  It's very like Nights that way, which is why I brought that up.

guardian heroes is a really good, refined entry into a tried and tested genre, whereas nights is a 25 minute long game where you spin in circles a bit and i guess you can do some confusing thing with the pigs in the background that means nothing at all

I liked Virtua Fighter and Panzer Dragoon, I only had like 5 games for it. One was a Mickey Mouse game, it wasn't terrible. I also really like Radiant Silvergun. Although it was never released outside of Japan, it was the reason I got my hands on an emulator.

Better than you'd think although playing SOT2 via SSF I did notice some very minor sound problems but nothing that detracts from the game. Much better than playing Dark Saviour which messed up halfway through one of the Parallels which was either an emulation bugbear or a bad ISO I'm not a hundred percent sure.

My favourite Saturn game is SEGA Rally which is also the best game on the system and it was a launch title making it a hard act to follow. It was probably the reason that I wanted a Saturn in the first place. Well that and SOT2.

Pretty well, though because of how weird the saturn's 3d was (squares instead of triangles) you won't get the higher resolution graphics you can with ps2/wii/whatever emulation, since it has to be done in software mode.

Just find the latest SSF build you can and use that; it's the only one that really works.

It was not easy to be a SEGA Saturn fan

Quite true. I was able to acquire a Saturn a year or so ago. But finding games for it, especially worthwhile games, is very difficult. Here in the US, the Saturn and the Master System were some of Sega's most obscure and least successful consoles. Getting your hands on either one is a chore, and the games are often even harder to find.

If you were a Saturn fan back in its commercial lifespan, it was easier to acquire the merchandise, but still troubling in the trickle of support the console received.

how well does saturn emulation work

Oddly enough, this is part of the reason why the Saturn has remained so obscure. The difficulty of emulating Saturn games has helped to keep them out of re-releases and compilation collections. Very sad.

Saturn emulation is great these days ... as long as you have a decent machine.  SSF is a pain in the ass though, as it doesn't just run isos - you have to use a drive or set up a ghost drive.  Hate that.

Nice thread... I got a Saturn cheap at a garage sale and I'm looking for more games (it came with Daytona).

The Racketboy articles are worth looking at, too:
