why should we be taking about it? it's his own business. we didn't have a thread when phubans broke up with his girlfriend, so why would we do that for notch?

the only notch-related news I will care about is if he takes a dump on the prime minister's face.
I'll wait.

gossip is more fitting for irc (#tigirc, #allen on esper.net) than for the forums, so if you want indie gossip go to those places, you'll get more than anyone could want

The IRC options here scare me. I see them as reverse chrysalises where you enter in as beautiful butterflies and then later leave as worms that spend their time primarily telling other people that they are pieces of shit. Also I get a ton of timeout errors for some bizarre reason. All I wanna do is talk about Jason Rohrer's latest hairstyle trends without the risk of damage to my moral character. This is stuff that is fundamental to human nature. Rohrer's hair is eternal. It it one of the few truly universal human desires, transcending taste and trend alike. Why should something that shakes the heart of every human being be relegated to the relay rooms of internet ephemera?

I FEEL THE SAME WAY Maybe we need a third irc. We've got the bored irc and the angry irc, and we can have the productive irc. #beefsteak

i think rather that most people are inherently bad people, and irc, like power, wealth, religion, and politics, just reveals that fact about people to themselves (and to others). if you stay away from those types of things you can maintain an illusion that you are a good person (which may or may not be beneficial depending on the circumstances). but the truly pure of heart (rare as they may be) don't need to fear irc or even wealth or politics, because it can't affect them. so basically it's like that test at the end of neverending story, which only lets the truly brave through and burns everyone else in any case, there are other benefits to irc besides revealing who you are to yourself. for instance, finding people to make indie games with. more than half the people i've work on and finished indie games with i met through irc (not in those tigsource channels in particular, but in ohrrpgce-related irc channels, back when i used to use the ohrrpgce in the late 90s early 00s)

1) On Twitter I have 800 followers, Notch has 844,850. Outside of TIGS, few people know who I am. Notch is renowned the world over, far beyond just indie games. 2) I didn't break up with my girlfriend.

I was always taught that, given time, your influences define you. There's a quote by Jim Rohn that's like "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with," and from personal experience I've seen that it's hella true. I'm not saying that IRC is fundamentally bad. In the past I've had great times with great people on great channels. It's just that the culture that's grown all up in #tigirc is a little noxious to me. And I'd rather not let myself be dragged down to their level if possible because I already know I'm not strong enough to hold out. I may not be the best person (or even a good person), but I know that I can change for the better, and I'd rather choose to be around people who can help me along to reach that goal.
