oh NOOOOOOO TELL me this isnt one of those times where the trailer spoils the goddam movie (bolded so that people are likely to notice this line before watching the trailer, heh) Because the sudden change of tone realllly looks like something youre not supposed to expect going into it. I get the feeling I should have never seen this trailer....

That's not a spoiler. The whole structure of the film and book is the telling of interconnected stories in different time periods.

Ah. thats a relief. It wouldnt be the first time that something clearly meant to be a surprise to the viewer is revealed in the trailer. I really sucks when that happens. Im going to leave my previous post unchanged because it makes me look silly. Thee hee look at that dumbass being all oh nooooooo

It's based on a book? I may have to check that out.
Edit: The movie looks interesting but extremely ambitious. It seems like it will be hit or miss, IMO. That scene where the girl gets hit by the car and flies into the water was really cool looking though ..

The book is fantastic, as is pretty much everything by David Mitchell.
It would make for a very ambitious movie indeed; I was kinda expecting two films at least, given the scope.
The trailer looks good, but I don't want to get too excited just yet.

Sounds like the concept might work better in a book than in a movie given how many times they're switching perspectives and how little overlap there seems to be between each one. If they pull it off though it'll probably be the best thing released this year (except The Hobbit.)

Is this going to be as boring as 'Mr nobody' or 'the fountain'?

Saw this the other day... looks cool but pretty heavy going. Life of Pi somehow interests me a little more.
