WOW!
The TRS-80 Model III is more popular than I thought Grin
Let's hope this leads to more people downloading, playing and voting on all these awesome demakes.
TIGSource has the best competitions.

- The link definitely downloads the latest 1.2 version (just double checked)
- After you unzip, the .exe should be named "HoldMeCloserGiantDancer  Beta Silent v1.2.exe", or you've got the old version
- Your browser may be retrieving an old version from your cache (rather than going back to the server).
Try clearing your cache. I've had this classic problem even with newer browsers.

This game is great!... but it begs for sound, any. I got killed by the third Boss, the one with the thinnest legs actually  Embarrassed.

Still getting the run-time error 91 a few seconds after the game starts, even with version 1.2. Sad

AS GOD AS MY WITNESS, I SWEAR THE LATEST VERSION WORKS!

I just uploaded v1.5 which takes half the video memory of previous versions. This will fix the 'error 91' bug which occurs when video memory runs out. It turns out that I was storing my sprite masks as 32-bit color GDI bitmaps even though they're only black and white. I did this because I am stupid. They are now stored as monochrome bitmaps which takes much less room. If the game didn't work for you the first time, the second time, or the third time (v1.2), it will work for you now. If it doesn't... I will kill you.

Note:
Even if the game worked for you before, download this latest version. There's a good chance it will run with a better frame rate.

Did You Know...
You can easily add your own monsters. Steps:

1. Add a .GIF to the /Monsters folder

2. Maximum size is 16,000 pixels - however you choose to slice it.
   i.e. 400 x 400 = 16,000. 800 x 200 = 16,000 (wide). 100 x 1600 = 16,000 (tall)
Every pixel gets blown up to 3 x 6 automatically. Gives it the TRS-80 look.
   i.e. 400 x 400 becomes 800 x 2400

3. Follow the colour standards the other monsters use.

4. Follow the file naming convention the other monsters use.
   UniqueID MonsterName Movement1-Movement2-Movement3

5. Ensure your monster has 3 White spots (White is interpreted as a Sigil)
Or steal the Sigils from the existing monsters.

Please send me your monsters! If they're playable, I'll include them in the next build and give you full credit.
Alternatively, you can place the monster image on a web page (IMG), and players can save it to their /monsters folder.

Yes! It finally works!

Up to the dog-shaped colossus. Having fun so far, and making sure you aren't crushed by the corpse adds some unexpected strategy when choosing sigil order. Some of the fights have been actually tense. Smiley

I'd probably try and make the weakspots a little more differentiated than white on grey, maybe with a darker outline or something. I wasn't able to climb up the third boss Gaius from the ground when on his right side (couldn't jump to the second notch in his leg, seemed to be moving too fast to the right for me to loop around, although it might have something to do with timing when he jumps or walking underneath), but was able to ride his head up as he appeared. Did you mean to have the single white pixel on the right-front leg of Phaedra to make the climb more challenging? I'll try and have some more detailed feedback when I have time to finish it.

Interesting gameplay but the game would benefit a lot by being sped up IMHO.
Good job. Gentleman

Moi >
If the game approximately matches the speed of the YouTube video, you're playing at the speed I wanted. If it's slower, you may be a victim of my code and all the BitBlts it's doing. I've heard from several people that my game runs slow on their machine. i.e. Terry's laptop

The 1.5.zip contains 3 executables for 3 different resolutions.
The 800x600.exe version gives you the most speed.
Hopefully this helps.

Harder to beat than I remember.

Game download has been updated to v1.6.
Improved bitmap clipping might improve performance on some machines.

Enjoy!

People are creating custom monsters! YAY!
So far, I've been sent 4 monsters - 2 great and 2... playable Smiley

To add a monster, simply right click one of the above images and save it in your game/monsters folder.
If you find ANY %20 in the filename, change it back into a space.
i.e. "0000101%20Languid%2012-19-29.gif" becomes "0000101 Languid 12-19-29.gif"
I'll fix this issue in the next version.

For the right click adverse, AndrewFMs created this

(avec bonus Midi music)

Make More Monsters!
(All you need is Microsoft Paint).
Post them or e-mail them to [email protected].
On the HMCGD website, I'll eventually create a full list of who created what monster.

Also the second boss in game is very difficult.
