I did wood turning for the first time while not really knowing what it was.

Really enjoyed it. Is there anyone else that has done it here?
If you have the slightest interest in woodwork etc. then I highly recommend it. Ended up making a candlestick and a small bowl.

We made a baseball bat at some point in woodwork class in school, and a handle for a bottle opener at some other. I remember enjoying it.

I did a wooden base for frying pans and stuff, a desk lamp, and a CD stand.

I was never much into wood turning, but I did the whole wood shop circuit building cabinets, clocks, and cutting boards. My shop teacher is a wood turning fiend, though. He does some incredible stuff.

Now metal turning on a lathe, I've done that. That's more of a science than an art since you have to program a CNC lathe to do it for it.

Is wood-turning the same thing as lathe stuff?
I made a bomb-ass bowl back in the day with the woodshop lathe.

Wood turning and using a lathe are the same thing, yes.

And that is a kickass bowl!

Yeah that's the stuff.

My teacher gave me a catalog and it had some metal lathes in there which weren't programmable (as far as I know). Turning metal seems a bit scary
