The Tormented

a devlog

The Tormented is an Story-Driven Horror game centered around a man who lost his wife, than fell into a coma after becoming an alcoholic. The game is set in his coma nightmare, which he can't escape. The world has no sunlight, no safe place, and as far as he knows no people. It's inhabited by monstrous creatures that seem bent on killing our protagonist the second they get the chance.

Here's some environment concept art, specifically of a ruined city, which is one of the distinct locations in The Tormented

Here's some character art for you as well.

One of the monstrous creatures in the world:

The Team

Here we have another creature concept, and a rough concept for the main character's wardrobe.

And here's another interesting environment concept, its of an rundown passage way.

I kind of like the second monster design better than the once in the op. If the world is supposed to be completely devoid of humans, then having monsters that appear to be deformed humans would suggest that it was inhabited until something turned people into monsters, which doesn't seem like what you were going for unless I'm mistaken.

Thanks for the feedback. On some of the first concepts we didn't want them to look to different from humans, but now we're starting to fan out a bit. We should have some more environment concept stuff out soon.

Cool concept and nice looking art. This seems pretty interesting! Reminds me of Silent Hill.

Thank you! Our concept artist will be happy to see that you guys like his work. ^.^

Funny you should say that, Silent Hill was one of our main inspirations. It should have more of an Alan Wake type gameplay, except slower.

We're starting work on a basic gameplay demo, and an extra C# programmer would be helpful. If anyone is interested they can contact us through our website.

I'm doing some updates on our website, mainly upgrading the forums quite a bit, so there MIGHT be some downtime.

Thanks for understanding and stuff.

We have acquired another programmer and will begin work on the gameplay demo very soon. Also, we should have a better forum up soon, it'll be running off Simple Machines Forum software, just like TIGsource.

Some new concept art will be thrown at you guys soon.

If he is in a coma, what could be quite cool is the monsters are mutations of things around him.
Nurses with half their flesh torn off, doctors wielding scalpels on their fingers. You could even go completely bizarre and have things like gift shop teddy bears that have been nightmarishly torn and twisted, who have the cries of babies as they eat you.

Just musing out loud.. Wink

I would even make his clothing more along the lines of a hospital gown...one that can get shredded and bloodied up!

See, your assuming a lot with this suggestion, like that he's in the hospital. Eventually he'll get to one, but since he lives alone, and his depression and alchohalism has driven the majority of his friends away, no one is really going to notice him missing.

We have a theme for the monsters going already, it'll become more aparant. But, again, your assuming he's in the hospital.

Thanks! And speaking of concept art, we've got some more for you. These are some concepts of the other planned environment, and yes the first one is in black and white.

And a more detailed view of the cabin.

9/27/12 Updates

We've gotten a new programmer on the team, as well as a composer with beautiful work.

I've been busy lately, so I haven't gotten much done in terms of the forums. They'll be up soon though.

Once we start the gameplay demo production, I'll keep a weekly blog, stay tuned.
