You say that as if the hands will take up the entire fight. I would think like one hand would appear at a time, with a wait time similar to Deathworm's between each hand. In general, maybe like two to four hands will be experienced in the fight before the stage everts to something less deadly.
I think the black shouldn't kill you, but just block your vision while recovering.
And how will that work? Does the icon showing where you are simply disappear or something?

I'm with raptor on this, it seems to me the hands, taken directly from eversion, wouldn't be that big of a problem. They appeared at varying points in the y axis, meaning most would go over the players head, there was never more than one on screen at once, and the actual hitbox of the bloody thing was 1/4th of what it appeared to be, even the brawl characters have larger hitboxes comparatively.

I think a VVVVVV stage would be pretty awesome.

since reimu and touhou will need stages, these are my ideas. there's a lot of important places on gensokyo (AKA touhou land) such as the Hakurei shrine (pretty obvious who is there), the forest of magic (where Marisa and Alice live), the Scarlet Mansion (where remilia "i'm dracula" scarlet, sakuya "the tsundere" isayoi, hong "chi-china" meiling, Flandre "..bad..." scarlet and Patchouli "i do drugs" knowledge lives) and the heaven (where the drunk loli and other beings lives). of these places the hakurei shrine and the scarlet mansion are the most iconics, so i'm going with them. firts the Hakurei Shrine (lololol draw):

what is supposed to happen here? well, if i remenber good between touhou 10-12 there was a huge earthquake on gensokyo that destroyed the hakurei shrine. my idea? usually there's going to be little earthquakes on the stage causing some rocks to fall from the roof. also the players will move randomly to the sides if they're on the floor. (the roof is a platform)

now let's go with the scarlet mansion library(lolol draw too):

this is pretty simple. the great pilars are giant books over the booksellers (platforms). but that isn't all. randomly Hong Meiling will appear runing from Sakuya who is trying to knife her. if you get close to Meiling she'll kick you, but if you attack her with a range attack she'll fall to the ground and Sakuya will use that spellcard that circles the enemy on a lot of knifes, on Meiling of course (players can be affected by this knifes). if you get close to sakuya she won't do anything. plus she cannot be attacked.

so, what do you think guys? i know we don't have ZUN permission yet but hell, we can work on this (is not going to be added until some time so....)

EDIT: i forgot about stage themes (sorry about that ^^).
for Hakurei Shrine: Reimu's battle theme from SWR/UNL would be the classic choice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EV-H1zJbKk) but i prefer this arrangement http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YGYs3feWRI (if somebody speaks japanese, contact this guys)
for Scarlet Mansion Library: Patchouli's theme from IaMP is just perfect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7cbcmZeOfU .
P.D.: this arrangement sounds nice too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZngjU4WEOM&feature=related) but is not related to Reimu or the Library at all, is Flandre's one ¬¬ (just skip to the minute if you wanna rock)

If we have to have a Touhou stage, I would say that some location in the Scarlet Devil Manor would be the best. Hakurei Shrine is iconic, but wouldn't make a particularly interesting stage. The earthquakes were part of a game's storyline, not so much the location.
Perhaps the Voile library, and have books occasionally attack? They could pop out periodically and shoot projectiles in a predictable way. It would require a lot less spritework then having a character run by, and would be more true to the stage anyway... that "Meiling always sleeps on the job and Sakuya punishes her" thing is entirely fanon, and it's not particularly tied to the library itself.

yeah i think the scarlet devil manor is cooler too but meiling sleeping and sakuya punishing her is not so fanon. if you play th 12.3 and you play meiling's story you'll see that she was sleeping after reading a fishes book. i thinked on that cuz it was more interesting than books shooting on you or that devil girl that lives with patchouli. seriously, th Rekkaden (a fangame by lionheart) did the same thing of books shooting on you and that devil girl anoying you (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CT_vu0oa14). just wanted to be more creative ¬¬

Why does there need to be a Touhou stage? The series is known for its gameplay and its characters, not its locations.

In case we never decided on a layout for IWBTG, I made a layout that contains traps from the very beginning, considering the fact that a lot of people (including me) don't get far in the game:

Ok, we all know what the apples from the trees will do. The platforms with spiked bottoms will come crashing down and fast if anyone passes by underneath, but then act as a lift up to the clouds. The clouds will either rise or fall when landed upon, just like at the beginning of the game.

If I may suggest, it'd be nice to do the World Of Goo stage sometime soon.  I need an excuse to work on this more, and this level would be the perfect reason.  I just don't think the pumping station would be the best pick.  It's an interesting level in the game, sure, but I don't think it really stands out that much, or would make the best indie brawl level (especially since to keep any look of the original it'd be enclosed, which doesn't work for a level-out type fighting game.)

I think Fisty's Bog would both represent WoG as an iconic level and also make an interesting level to fight on:

Corresponding to the numbers in orange:
1. Sections of the level after taken high levels of damage could break apart.
2. However goos which wander the platform would quickly fill the holes back in.
3. I don't know why I'm including this number, but I think it'd be a funny touch to have the balloon goo that is released by the broken platform to fly away.
4. New Goo would spawn within Fisty's mouth and wander out when the Goo repairing the platforms grows too thin.  Also players could wander into Fisty a little bit, having the safety of the only solid platform on the level, although it might be nice to add another grass topped dirt platform or two along the goo platform.
5. The spikes below don't kill the player but instead bounce them back up after taking damage.

Actually I would say that the #1 most well-known thing is the music.

But yes, it's not really that much of an appropriate use of time.

Yes, of course. Still, there's no reason we can't include some Touhou music, with or without a stage (unless ZUN refuses to give his blessing, of course).

And I don't really much chance of ZUN refusing permission, so any work in that area wouldn't be likely to go to waste. Still, there are other area to work on that most certainly won't go to waste.

disagree. Hakurei shrine and Scarlet Devil Manor are iconic places on the Touhou Universe, Plus all characters need their own stage (please don't talk about C. Falcon and SSB64...). also "Voile, the Magic Library" is one of the coolest themes of touhou and it cannot be placed in other place that is not the library !=/

I think we've already conclusively decided that this won't be the case.  Games will fit best with what they can provide.
