Dofus Arena.

http://www.dofus-arena.com/en/accueil

Recently the lead developer noted that the game won't charge any fee or use any business model in the gold version. While it is possible that later advertising or similar business models are used (like allowing people to make their coach look more fancy with real money), I think it's fair to consider it as freeware (free to play + no business model in the foreseeable future).

It's huge and currently in open beta.

Screenshots:

Basically, you're a coach who makes team and engages in fights with other players by letting those teams battle in an area, very much like FFT. No grinding possible at all (a new player can be exactly as strong as a player that has played for years) and only multiplayer. Recommend to gamers who like the genre, but be aware of the high learning curve.

edit: the screenshots don't launch anymore for me, I'll update them some time.

I'm really, REALLY, looking forward to action fist :O

I mean, the music is awesome, and the gameplay looks like Cave Story (The shooting, and the bullets themselves Tongue)

Also, Purple seems really interesting too, but the trailer basically shows boss after boss. It's an actual game right? Or just a big bossrush?

Warhogs Revamped
http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=421676
http://wraxulgaming.weebly.com/war-hogs.html

gameplay video  (level 1 with boss battle)
( 3:07 min / 23 MB - 640 x 480 MP4)
http://www.mediafire.com/?cgyeynqnjrz

or on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O87PTXtFG7I

a promising platform shooter which is heavily influenced by contra and metal slug.
(more contra similarities though).

the graphics and controls are fine but the game lacks in level design, and overall difficulty problems...
(the 1st level is pretty good but the later are lacking)
this game has some good potential and could be really good with some work on the mentioned issues.

i recommend to give the 4 level demo a try
(but consider that the keyboard is not working when a gamepad is plugged in...the developer said that this problem will be solved in the next release)

also interesting:
warhogs revamped is a remake of warhogs.
i played through the 5 levels in 20 minutes and it was pretty fun despite some flaws.
heres a gameplay video of the whole first level (with boss fight that was quite a bit unfair Wink
( 3:34 min / 17 MB - 640 x 480 MP4)
http://www.mediafire.com/?z0mymjmyvmo

moreover some already finished worthwhile freeware platform shooters to check out:

hurrican (tribute to turrican. 5 years in development)

t2002 (remake of turrican 2)

t4funeral (tribute with t2002 engine)

streambolt desero (short but fun with similarities to gunstar heroes)

mission extreme (retro platform shooter fun)

blob wars (bloody mission based platform shooter)

blip and blob (bloody comical platform shooter)

atomic butcher (bloody platform shooter with 360° shooting)

what gives you that idea?
im not a programmer...and if i would be a programmer then i would mention it when a game would have been developed by myself.  Smiley

"The Little Things is a puzzle-platformer with a focus on exploration and collection. There aren't very many places you can die and the generally twitch controls are downplayed. The point of the game is to explore your world both above and below ground and collect the titular Little Things -- small living beings that can survive in tiny glass flasks and cages, which range from small insects and tiny creatures to worldly spirits and magical wisps. As a Lomite Collector, your primary task is to explore the fantastic world and collect these tiny things in their natural and unnatural environments, but along this path you'll also find yourself selling and trading them to interested buyers for specific equipment and tools, visiting strange people and places, and encouraging metamorphosis of your Little Things through animistic and alchemical means.
In short, it's Knytt meets Pokémon, without the combat."
