La Mulana (remake): a game to lose yourself in (literally). better than the already great original in almost every way. didn't get the marketing it deserved.
I've been wondering about the remake; is the second half of the game less awful than in the original version?

In the original version it starts out really, really good, but roughly halfway through the game the puzzles become more random, take place throughout the entire ruins (rather than sticking to the field the puzzle is in, limiting the possible solutions) and require you to try more random shit (something harshly punished earlier in the game). The only way to continue was either to spend tons of time trying random shit until you find the unsatisfying solution or just look it up on the internet, and both took all the fun out of the game.

Is the remake less ridiculous, or does it still have the problems that plague the second half of the game in the original?

So judging from this thread, would it be fair to assume that Dark Souls is the Game of the Semi-Decade? It's gotten the most votes out of any game in this thread so far, I think... Perhaps a poll is in order?  Well, hello there!

@guys mentioning H&H: Thank you very much, I've played it long time ago, where there were almost nothing there yet (really, like 2 small settlements) and it was amazing! I've lost interest for some reason and after few weeks I forgot the name and couldn't find it. Now I'm afraid to start playing again as it will eat all my time.

let's just say the remake can be completed w/o a guide.

the original was a love letter to maze of galious so the obscure puzzles were part of that.

Dark Souls is hardly perfect. Some of the moves (kicking and lunge-jumping come to mind) are way too finicky in their command input. There are a few bosses, like Capra and Stray Demon, that are more "cheap bullshit" than "hard but fair." There's a good chunk of just grinding through attrition back to the boss you just died at.

Overall though it's definitely the best exploration RPG in a long while. Dunno about best game of the past 5 years, but certainly the best of its kind.

Super Mario Galaxy
I'm ashamed to say that I haven't played the second part. But this one of the games that brought back the magical feeling from the old days. Not sure if this fits exactly in the last 5 years, but it's pretty close

Super Meatboy
I don't remember cursing this much towards a device. It is so satifying when you finally get that A+.

Pokemon Heartgold
It's pokemon? (and the best version aswell!)

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
This game might not trigger you emotionally, but the multiplayer is the biggest fun time ever.

Too lazy to think of any more.

Forgot to add this. To this day me and my friends nearly play it daily. Hell I just got off playing a hour ago.

Dota 2
LoL
TF2 (before the mann store opened)
Left 4 Dead
Dark Souls
La Mulana HD
Super Meat Boy
Braid
Hammerfight
Legend of Grimrock

roughly in order of how much time I've put into each game, not necessarily in order of which i like the most
i could probably add another 10 games to this easily

edit: i forgot about la mulana remake, pretty much my favorite game ever

Awesome! Unfortunately me and all my friends have a first batch wii, which have problems reading dual layered disc. They all stopped reading the game at one point  Cry

oh well if we go by time spent in each game i've probably put about 1000+ hours into league of legends (over 2-3 years timespan), and 300 hours into dota 2

I think the longest/most hours played game I've ever done would be Left 4 Dead 2, with over 770 hours last I checked. No idea how much time I've spent playing GoldenEye 007 on N64 and Perfect Dark, but I don't think it comes close. I think Terraria is the second-most played game (at least on Steam) with over 300 hours. After that would probably be Fallout 3. The first time I played it I spent about 60 hours, and then there was another time when I did the same. I think my last save file had like 120 - 150, so I estimate overall I've played about 250 hours of that game. If I complete Dark Souls on NG+ and start a New Game with a different class, I'll easily hit 200 hours.

Not really checking the dates, so there might be some obvious great games released in the past 5 years that I'm forgetting. Focusing on the generally recent ones that made an impression on me.

Demons's Souls / Dark Souls
Yeah...

Journey
I'm not with the "man, it's so deep!" crowd, but it is one of the prettiest games I ever saw, it was actually fun to interact with, and I'm very happy something like it was made at all.

Batman: Arkham City
A hyped AAA game that is actually as good as everyone says it is. Combat mechanics are brilliant. So are the stealth sections.

Red Dead Redemption
I still get back to it whenever we're discussing how to make a good game narrative. The ending is killer.

Dragon's Dogma
I fucking love this game. I want a sequel. Now. Haven't had so much fun in ages.

Katawa Shoujo
Changed my perspective on many things. Should be creepy and dumb, is actually pretty tasteful and clever.

The Path
The game itself is interesting, but mostly we had fun trying to find the right interpretation for it with my girlfriend (including very wacky ones). It's the first time we discussed a game like that, so yeah...

The World Ends With You
A jRPG, from Square Enix, with a completely original plot, setting, and gameplay mechanics. It just doesn't compute.

inFamous / inFamous2
It's one of the few cases when I really had tons and tons of fun with a power fantasy open-world AAA game. Even just moving around is cool.

Bayonetta
Jesus Christ those combat mechanics were good!
