I gave this a go and absolutely hated it Not for me, very distracting noises without much melody, reminded me of venetian snares on crack played super slowmo, if that makes any sense.

If I'm coding tricky stuff then only silence will do, but usually I'm not doing anything particularly tough - just grinding through implement/test/debug cycles. So most of the time I'm listening to this sort of thing: my current Spotify playlist ...usually on shuffle.

Im seeing Sabaton live in just a few days Haha, saw them and Eluveitie last night, had an absolute blast! My coding playlists vary wildly, but on the whole they are a single genre taken from : - Metal - Electro - Post-rock - Video Game/Anime Soundtracks Depends on the current mood...

Flatmate introduced me to this recently. Quite enjoyed it. It pretty mandatory for me to listen to music at work as the boss and his brother are total chatterboxes. The music can be distracting every now and then but it's better than people twittering on whilst I'm trying to dictate to the machine.

Recently I've started listening to podcasts with game dev interviews, their long length means that I have a reason to sit down for a while and they also serve as constant inspiration and motivation.
Obviously I can see how this would be less than ideal to a lot of people, due to paying attention to code and a conversation at the same time, but I've managed to adjust quite well.

I listen to roguelike radio sometimes whilst coding so I know where you're coming from. But I tend to prefer it whilst level designing like Paul said.

Classics in general are excellent coding music - nice and beautiful background that (usually) doesn't steal your attention too much.
