What games do you play to give you idea's/inspiration for your current project?

For my game Spuds Quest I mess about with Zelda (not literally), Banjo games, and Dizzy.

Do tell.

Games mostly inspire me just technical wise when I look for a solution how to do something specific. I get the artistic inspiration always from some other area than games. Good areas are nature, politics, spirituality, sociology, technology and art.

Games that had the most profound/immersive experience for me are the ones I go back to. If I could one day make a game that gives someone the same feeling I had when playing Pokemon Blue, Lufia, or Freespace for the first time, I'd consider myself very accomplished.

Cave Story. I wonder how many others will say this? Maybe Minecraft, too.

I like to tool around with gameplay more than graphics or story or anything, so when I'm making a game I'll play old games in that genre to see the different ways things were done before conventions solidified.

Playing Super Bonk right now. It is pretty off-the-wall.

It depends on what i'm doing, more like a research thing. For now i'm playing Advance Wars 2 and Fire Emblem 6, because i'm making a turn-based game and all.

if you look carefully enough you can find something to learn from any game, even if it's just the way the gui works or a particle effect or something. i enjoy all types of games and often take away ideas for my game from them, even if they're completely different kinds of games. often just simple stuff like how the screen fades, or sunlight effects, stuff like that

I usually get all my ideas from game soundtracks, it's a trip listening to all kind of music while playing and it ends up giving me lots of advanced pictures of ideas in my head that I usually forget when the song ends Sad Right now the soundtrack of Hotline Miami gave me a cool idea im going for that includes hipster zombies and ghetto gangbanging vampires with one-button-smash combat. It'll be the derp of the herp!

LSD is an illegal compound and I would never do that but I might have heard about a guy who did from a guy who was not me who was that guy.

I don't seek inspiration for games (not that I develop that many, just for occasional fun) from games, but currently if I would make a game, I'd definitely try to bing a lot of Dark Souls into it - it's hard in a perfect way.
