A game by David Williamson, with music by Aaron P

Blobbyball is a side on, physics based, sports game for 1-8 players. Control your blob and try to knock the ball into your opponents goal. First team to score 5 wins. The game's speed can be set with the + and - keys. If you wish to remove the CPU player press F10. Pressing up or down on the menu screen will allow you to change your players initials. Enjoy.

First screenshot of the proof of concept. One blob, one ball, and two goals/nets. Will post a build when I'm next on my Windows machine.

Yay - new update!

Good graphics here - I also like how you subtly blended the TigSource Banner in the background  Hand Thumbs Up Right

Well you can't have sports without sponsors.  Wink

Score keeping and win conditions are now in. It's first to five so that there aren't any draws.

Next up is the menu/title screen.

I fired up my Windows machine today so I have a build for people to try. It's still very early with a lot of placeholder stuff, but you can get an idea of how it will play.

Download [1MB]

EDIT Hit 'F11' to toggle fullscreen

And if any of you are coming to the Manchester Indie Meet Up tonight I'll be brining it along for people to challenge me.

Just tried it out. I didn't have anyone to play against, so I can't talk about that experience, but from the aesthetics and the way it plays, it seems super fun and will probably bring out anyone's competitive side. One thing tho, I'm not a programmer myself, so I don't know how that exactly works, but is it possible to speed up the physics a little bit? Right now it feels like the whole game is in constant slow motion and even tho this brings the feeling of desperately trying to get a hold of the ball, I think that if the gameplay is a bit faster it could make the game even more fun. Just a thought Smiley

Haha - I love the blobs =]

Other than that you should probably prevent the blobs from jumping through each others goals lol. To make the game a bit more challenging - I think you should make the blobs collide with each other - that way you could "physically" brawl with the player over possession of the soccer ball Tongue

Great concept - you could go all gish-style and let them stick onto obstacles placed in the play area..

I tried the game and It's very funny. Keep up the good work! Take into account the idea to make the blobs colliding with each others.

Had a chance to watch people play it at the MCR Meet Up last night. It was very informative. Thanks to those that came along and played it.

Agreed. The next version will run much faster, and I may even add an option to vary the speed to taste. I will add that playing four player is a bit more frantic so you don't notice the slow speed as much.

I think you should make the blobs collide with each other

I'm not sure about this one. It could be fun two player, but once you start adding more players then everyone will be getting in each others way. I'll think about it. For blocking, and obstructing most player last night resorted to jumping onto the ball.
