For those who haven't yet heard of the awesome that is Good Old Games, GoG is a site that sells XP and Vista ready versions of great classic games with absolutely 0 DRM for great prices. Unfortunately they are only in closed beta at the moment, so unless you got in on the early sign ups you'll have to wait a while before you can grab some of the games.

I was lucky enough to get in to the beta, so I've bought myself Fallout 1+2, Freespace and the expansion, Sacrifice, Giants: Citizen Kabuto and MDK. Currently i'm playing through Citizen Kabuto and loving it. So many gaming classics, so little time!

Anybody else get in to the beta? Any reccomendations from a more experienced 90s gamer?

I wasn't fussed about rushing into the beta, but I'm going to be all over this when the final version is released. Gotta get my hands on Die By the Sword since everyone here recommended it. I'm also looking forward to Citizen Kabuto, Kingpin, and Messiah.

Yeah, I bought MDK but it suffers from some terrible hardware nightmare on my comp and doesn't run properly Sad

That's disappointing. I'd only heard good things about the games' compatibility up till now.

Is there some kind of Demo you can download to confirm a game's working for you? Or do you just have to take their word?

Sounds like they faithfully recreated the experience of owning the original.

Do they have Outcast?

Ooohh I have that game, the original version actually runs without problems on my PC (don't know about Vista though). Awesome game.

WHAT? They don't work in Vista?

Oh, I thought about a thread like this, but hesitated because it isn't indie. Luckily you didn't Beer!

I signed up for the beta some months ago, mainly because I wanted to have Fallout. I still didn't buy anything until they added Paypal 2 days ago! And then I saw it.. Hostile Waters! The game of my dreams! An excellent strategy-action-hybrid, similiar to C&C Renegade but singleplayer-only and clearly surpassing it there. Yet I never played it. 7 long years since release and only now I finally got it!
Anyway, I'm loving that and for the "Buy 1 get 1 free" coupon I got Fallout. Two brilliant games for $6. Steal, anyone? Smiley

If they continue adding such classics, I'll definitely buy lots more Smiley
I guess Outcast is also the next thing I'm hoping for. Never played it Sad

They don't offer any demo versions (yet?). But they have a forum for each of the games, so if anybody has had problems with a game you may likely read about it and possible solutions there. I think so far the problems have been rather sparse, though. At least DOS games shouldn't be a problem, as I've heard they simply pack pre-configured DOSboxes with the games.

Did you post on their forums? So far most people's non-working games have been fixed, and the guys at GoG seem to be really nice so you should hopefully be able to sort something out. What did you get as your free game?

I'm still waiting for the old Thief's.

I've been playing through Thief 2 Gold on Vista. Sweet game but an absolute bitch to get working. This link does make it significantly easier though.

The best thing about this site, is the fact that its a collection of sweet games, most of which I've never even heard of. Citizen Kabuto I had never even heard of, but I'm sure glad i have now.
