Hello, this project seems really nice, I'm following it.
On the criticism side: Maybe are still placeholder, but I think that the speech baloons need to be pixel art too, as now they just don't fit the general style.

Good job.  Beer!

Mauz beat me to it on that one! Totally agree, make 'em nice and pixelly. Everything else in the game appears to be.

Forgive me if it is infact just a placeholder.

You are both right - the speech bubbles and font are just placeholders.
I do these mockups all the time prior to implementation just to be really quick.

I was wondering something, are all natives primitives? It's just that the game draw into racist discourse (not a criticism, just raising awareness) made up to justify these expedition. There was plenty great civilisation, it would be cool if there is some aspect of it into it. I'm a bit disturb to see the last image and see a clear civilized/uncivilized made by skin color when it was inaccurate. It's like depicting dark age europe with only lowly peons with pitchfork and no king, clergy or warrior. Especially when part of the renaissance has root with influence from africa's civilisation (chemistry came from egypt which was name kheim >> kheim mystery >> chemistry, also evident with the apparition of the black madonna prior to modern age conception of ethnicity).

Just putting that here for you to consider.

Yes, racism will be a topic in our game.
We want to confront the player with the racist mentality of the late 19th century. Will he fall into the same mentality as so many explorers of those days, or will he treat the land and its natives with respect?

None of the natives will be primitives (except the neanderthals, maybe).
We want our natives to have a rich culture of their own. They own this land, they have their stuff sorted out - that is, until you come in. This does not mean that the game is only about exploiting and destroying native civilizations; it's up to the player and his decisions how he will treat the natives.
You can very well manage your expedition with respect to not only the natives, but also their land itself as well. However, one of our goals is to have the player make hard choices, and potentially shock him with the dire consequences of something he may not have thought through so well, or didn't see the ethical aspect of his doing in the first place.

I have to admit we are still exploring the full scope of this aspect of the game.
We are very aware of it being a very difficult topic to tackle in a game, but in our opinion you cannot make a game that loosely is based on expeditions in the late 19th century without having the racism in it. I've already had a very personal and intense experience with how much this can offend people, so all I can say is that we want to approach the topic with the greatest respect to the real history behind it.

Okay, no problem, I just have to say that, I really like the project regardless.

Funny that neanderthal may be on par with homo sapiens but they are not there any more to complain lol so I guess that's fine /humor

Love the idea of moral choices and consequences!

I think the gui elements in this picture clashes too much with the tiny sprites.
They pop out too much and the styles do not match since the characters do not have outlines.

One of the things which first attracted me to this game was your early post about ethical decisions and repercussions. It's rare to see issues of racism tackled in a game which isn't specifically about racism, and I think it's brave and commendable to take this sort of 'warts and all' approach. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you develop this side of the game.

Kinda agree here. Maybe a more dulled outline? Or the outline matching up with the HUD element (Ex: Green HUD, green outline, etc). It's all still very likely to change anyways.

EDIT
Oh, and I concur that a gentlemen mode would be very splendid.

Thank you very much. We're curious ourselves how it will turn  Smiley

I have recorded 1 day of travelling (current development state) including the camp and feeding of your units (which is going to change drastically soon)

We're still working on improving the feedback of various systems.
I have a rough mockup that shows the feedback for where a track (when finding tracks) goes, instead of only showing it in the message log (what we do right now).
Tracks will lead you to all kinds of special places, like villages, temples, caves, caves filled with deadly tentacle predators, that kind of places.
The white dots are placeholders, if we use this way of feedback, specific track types would have their unique icons instead of those ugly white dots.

Thanks a lot for all the kind words  Beer!

I needed a small break from working on feedback, so I did a long overdue portrait for a specialist we'll be adding to our game: Marie Curie.

We're still undecided for her abilities and skills, so suggestions are more than welcome

This looks absolutely great!  Gentleman

Marie Curie could throw a flask full of radioactive material which has low damage but has a poisonous effect that deals damage each turn.

Looks great, but I find her nose a bit too big/prominent, no?
