Speaking of which, all of Tim Schafer's games have some very well-designed characters, particularly Psychonauts.

I definitely prefer the classic Link design:

If they made a cel shaded Zelda game with that aesthetic, I would shit myself

Eh. I was never a fan of the link design. Nor any of the other major Nintendo characters, really. They just never really stood out much too me.

But these did?

To each their own, then

Oddworld's creatures, while not particularly beautiful, are quite a sight for sore eyes.

I also have to bring up Rodney Greenblat's work on Parappa the Rapper, if only because of one man...

Every single design from Beyond Good and Evil was fantastic

Also Freya from FF9 for being a female charecter in a Final Fantasy game that's completly androdgenous and unsexualised.

Yeah, Oddworld was sweet.

I still feel like I'm the only one who enjoyed the third game more than the rest. I loved the seamless blend of puzzles-action-platforming that you got to do in that game. There were a ton of scenarios which seemed hopelessly difficult and yet had simple solutions once you stood back and actually thought about it for a bit. It was quite like Portal in that regard, I think.

Dynamite Headdy was presented in a way pretty much unlike any other game in existence. The way they made everything look like a stage, as though you were acting your way through a play was very well done. Every character had a properly puppet-like look to him or her.

Doom II has some of my favorite enemies. Specially Mancubus and Arch Vile. Maybe hthey aren't actual characters, but yet.

I always liked Raziel, from Soul Reaver.

Also, Cabadath from Trilby Notes and 6 Days a Stranger. I was going to post an image, but Google Images just gives me random images and the avatars from Konjak, Chutup and Gainsworthy. WTF?

Raziel's indeed pretty good. I guess they knew they had to have a good design when he's one of four (and the most important of) actual characters in the Soul Reaver series.

real art looks like the mona lisa or a halo poster and is about being old or having your wife die and sometimes the level goes in reverse

I really liked Final Fantasy Tactics, I have to admit, but I'm afraid the newer ones are not nearly as well done.

For example, it's quite truthful for me to say that Luso Clemens has some of the most ridiculous character design I have seen. It's sad considering how much people seem to have enjoyed the original game.

Yeah I gotta admit those Team Fortress II characters are all kinds of awesome. I think that has to be the best style in game graphics I've seen in ages.

Another design I like is Sly Cooper, mostly him from the first game before they beefed him up and made him blocky.

^Good.^

^Not so much.^
