Hey guys, my laptop got stolen today, and like a fool I didn't back up most of my game projects. Luckily I hosted some of my flash game demos online to share with friends. I understand if this topic is taboo, but it would really be lifesaving if someone could suggest a good quality, free, flash decompiler. I was using flashpunk (so as3) for these projects, so I don't know if that'll play in the equation at all.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=flash+decompiler

All humour aside, I believe that the two top results should work fine. I've never used a flash decompiler before, yet I have reason to believe that it will probably not decompile back to exactly how you had it before. Regardless, good luck, and sorry about your laptop!

EDIT: Whoops, looks like http://code.google.com/p/flash-decompiler/ is one of the only free ones.

I used sothink's swf decompiler before, but lord is it overpriced.

no one will kill you if you somehow 'obtain' a copy and use it briefly for the purpose of getting back some of your non-commercial projects you lost

there's no free decompiler out there that's worth a shit, or if there is I couldn't find one. and I'm pretty sure the sothink has a demo, but iirc it doesn't let you save/export.

I personally recommend SoThink SWF Decompiler. It's worth the money, and has bailed me out several times.

Also I don't see why this subject would be taboo. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with decompiling software for the purpose of education, it's only an issue if you try to make profits or derivative works from the result.

A large amount of my programming knowledge came from leaked sourcecode and decompiling games I liked.

If I recall right decompiling certain types of code (native binaries at least) is a federal offense in the US and a few other countries.  Which is total bullshit, but whatever.  It's not the sort of thing that's likely to be enforced unless you're reverse-engineering someone else's patented code.
