If you are able to work with minimal documentation, MOAI is a good fight.

It is mostly 2D, but has the ability to render 3D objects to 2D sprites.

What should stop you to use a working tool, it's not like a car you need to keep in shape, it will stay intact as it is.

Sure, only the roads around that car are constantly evolving and need new kind of wheels/engines/windshields etc (like win8 does, and win9 next time)

but the monogame project will be useful for longer I suppose.

It's just something to take in consideration when choosing a toolkit / framework to start with.

The x86-pc road remains, that's where that tool drives, if not on xbox360. Arm devices will get a special treatment anyway.
