Hello everyone,

Let's start the first Musical Challenge of 2013!

We're currently compiling the 2012 winning tracks plus a few bonus tracks to a charity album in this thread, so chances are your music might get featured on the next release. You can also find links to all previous challenges in there. So here we go...

This round's challenge:  Angry Hot! Angry

It's cold outside (at least over here in Germany), so let's heat things up a bit.

Without saying too much, let me just give you a few references from my personal favorites.

Spicy platforming salsa:

A burning blues from a Genesis Zelda clone:

And one of the greatest things that ever happened in VGM: "What the Heck" from Earthworm Jim

No other restrictions. Just make sure it's a red-hot listening experience. Bonus points if my speakers catch fire.

If everyone's cool with it, I'll follow up on E-Rock's idea of putting up a poll after choosing three possible winners - if there are more than three entries, which I hope will be the case. Smiley

The deadline is two weeks from now, on January 19th.
Have fun composing!

Thanks for entering, everyone!

Cheers,
Moritz

Well I've been at the beach all week trying to escape the heat, but looks like now I'm going to have to turn off the air con and channel all that heat into my entry!

Great theme Moritz, looking forward to working on this one!

Wow. I manage to find time to resume these challenges, only to discover how difficult this one will be, for me, at least..... I'll try to think of something, though.

Be warned, I'm in Hamburg this weekend. Well, hello there!

It's definitely an interesting theme and I will do my best to finish something in time. Also, this is a great way to procrastinate learning for my uni exams.

Well, I know I haven't been here frequently, but I always try to find time to do these.  I guess I'll go first: https://soundcloud.com/matt-pirtle/rendez-vous

I'd love to give this a go. If I get time I'll put something together.

For now, here's something from an album back in 2010.

Cactus Juice Makes The Ride Taste Longer

It's not so much a song as it is ambient experimentation but I feel the "heat" every time I listen to it.

Not sure if this piece I just wrote will qualify, but it's the best I could think of.

Nice theme Moritz! Smiley

I'm in a big end-session exam rush that will end on January 17th, I hope I'll have the time to post something here.

Nice work Matt, it really does feel deep wild south to me... kind of a contrast with my deep snow and cold Montréal! Haha

Fun track PythonBlue! It actually made me think of an action theme, a bit like the ball game in TOR. (I don't mean it reminds me of the theme in that game, but a theme in a sci-fi where you would have a dangerous ball game something like it) keep it up :D

And one of the greatest things that ever happened in VGM:

When it started, I couldn't help but notice... wait a minute, wasn't that Night on a Bald Mountain?  Big Laff

Thank you very much! Smiley Was scared it didn't fit in with the theme at all.

Good ears, it's indeed Mussorgsky. (with infernal elevator music as an awesome contrast)
I love the musical choices Shiny made - like the intestine level in Earthworm Jim 2 featuring Beethoven. And of course the MDK soundtrack.

Anyway, keep the tracks coming, people. Smiley

Cheers,
Moritz

Here's my actual entry. It's just a rough mix for now.

I wrote this today which was ironically the hottest day in 50 years on the east coast of Australia... Hundreds of bush fires and around 43'C.

Enjoy.
