Hey and Hello TIG Forums!  Gentleman

Description:

ENYO is trying to let go of an old Dystopia. And it's also a 2d action platformer.
ENYO Arcade resembles a modern 2d action platformer. Notable for its unique gameplay, depth in atmosphere and merciless action. Fight or avoid various hazards and find your way to the exit in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

Features
  • 40 locations spread over 4 stages
  • 3 difficulty achievements
  • 16+ unique enemy types
  • Tight and responsive controls - always stay in direct control of the action
  • Movement focused on 'game feel' including: wall jumping, ball jumping, rocket jumping AND regular jumping!!
  • No 'holding hands and leading the way' - play like a grown up!
  • Modern Art at 60 frames per second
  • Atmospheric audio visual experience
  • Keyboard movement can be remapped

History
In 2012 a hobby project was added to STEAM Greenlight. That project later became ENYO Arcade. The next 2 years were spent further creating and testing a solid game experience in flash. 2015 the contend was distilled and rebuilt in GM:Studio to provide higher performance. Sharing the journey was part of the experience that helped me improve so far and I am thankful for that opportunity.

Spriting is splendid. Hand Thumbs Up Right The gameplay in the teaser looked a little limited, can you do anything other than short range karate?

Thanks, yes you can. In the teaser its only the start of the game (so minimal setup). I actually started off as a shooter with rocket jumps, shotguns, grenades and all that... I also have a few more "handy" weapons... but haven't completely locked in to any setup yet. Movement wise you can expect a wide range of platformer typical moves.

BUT! I do want to focus on close range stuff. Leaving the 360° Aim as an option. I want to try an keep it as simple as I can and yet preserve a dynamic movement and treat projectiles as side arm.

So I've been working on some new movement and weapon styles...

For instance I've lowered her jump height and gave her the ability to grab onto ledges instead. So she still can reach the same height but now I think it feels better.

furthermore I am working on some Icons/Box Cover Art (still a bit scetchy though) here an older one that is rather a mood compilation:

Amazing graphic work!  Addicted

Cover the girl a bit more, please. I hate games that put females is skimpy clothing. It's juvenile and seems a plot to make people play the game because of skin.

Thank you! I know about that clichee but that's how she looks like. And I did already cover her up more than intended... maybe I might even go for a 18 rating, because imho kids under 18 should not play this game or any other crazy interactive experience... without a fully developed dorsal premotor cortex games can do harm to emotional development.

What do you think about that?

I second eyeliner. Her "suit" is quite ridiculous (and not in the good, fishing way). That's actually something that'll prevent me from buying a game. Which is a shame since it looks quite cool & nice & cool  Hand Thumbs Up Right

I agree with eyeliner and Gib. Game looks great, but do everyone a favor and cover up the main character. If her lack of clothing is part of the story, then the story needs to change.

You got me Well, hello there!

 No No NO

I've choosen to go down that road with her - call it bold ignorance for now. But maybe I won't put it on the cover.  Shrug

I don't quite understand why that offends you so much but here is a Hi res shot (the above was rather a quick scetch thinking about the cover):

@Hoope: thanks for the input, I'll fix the fore/background issues you mentioned. Aside from that I had a scanline filter on and noticed it too late that this is a bad Idea for utube compression, lesson learned there.

It's also more that you are taking the game world and story seriously and then you have the heroine running around wearing something that only covers her nipples. It's just not realistic or practical and means we can't take the world seriously.

That's separate from the demeaning aspect. Smiley

@happymonster: I know what you mean but the world is a bit about that (not about that in particular but a development that has led to things like that... humiliation and disrespect of the human nature...)

(btw I worked on Sacred2 Fallen Angel - and it is also a little reference to that... high-heels in the dessert type o thing)

But ok, if I get another bunch of people disliking it so bad I will see what I can change. Although I'm not trying to please a common opinion but I don't want it to go down as cheap either or damage the believability in general.

I would like to hear some more opinions first though - So speak up interwebs! - thanks!

I saw this thread earlier before your website died - really liked the look of the screenshots and you had my interest, but that interest evaporated as soon as I'd scrolled down to your "Cover Art" graphic.

There's a lot of games out there that I've not played yet... more games than I've got time to play... so is there any reason why I should risk wasting my time finding out if your game design decisions are as bad as your character design decisions?

She doesn't stay like that all the time but you guys are getting me a bit concerned. Didn't think you'd be so harsh judges about it.

So all opinions on: Don't advertise with naked skin?

Or no skin in video games in general?

You know she just came out of a matrix style prison tank, woludn't expect to find a fitting overall dress lying around... Undecided

But I could let the first npcs give her some clothes (was playing with that thought a while back anyway) or she gets it of a dead body...

But I do get the don't advertise it point.

Okay. Being a female on the internet that plays games, Honestly, I've seen images with girls with big boobs and basically underwear on. You've taken that further and put only a strip of cloth on the female. If you just came out of a prison, you would be wearing more than a strip of fabric. Hell, my underwear is more than that black line on her body. Its really, really extremely naked. I dont have a moral issue with it, and again, I dont mind the LoL themed women with basically decked out underwear but this girl was more or less censored with a sharpie (and a thin line at that).
Honestly, if I say a youtube video or an advert about your game and the main character looked like that, it would alienate me from playing your game. So the question is; would you care about losing me as a potential game player?
Maybe put her in some sort of weird futuristic outfit that would be intune with the matrix styled prison until she gets cloths. There is nothing wrong with an appealing game character, but that doesnt mean she has to be nearly completely naked. Just add some more clothes!

So it is more about the advertising that leads to the discomfort? Or would you prefer to choose man in there too?

Its not about porn or any female humiliation, I respect every living creature and am far from desperate. I think I have to communicate better what this is all about before I show you what the results are.

The fact of the matter is, when people see that female character, it doesnt have enough clothes on to give your game respect. Upon seeing it, I really dont care how your game is because clearly you dont care about your character dressing the way its dressed, so do you care about the structure of your game? And that is up for my decision- being the person willing to buy a game. Its not about whether the main character is female or male, its more of just dress them. Leaving them naked isn't appealing, and at first glances at your game, will turn people off to playing it.

Ok, thanks. I think I get your point. I am sending a false impression like that.

I am fine with not advertising that fact any further (No naked lady cover art, cutscenes or anything) but I would like to hold on to my concept of the main character in this bizarre setting. And I am aiming for a mature audience anyhow. I was expecting some controversy about it, but I don't want it to degrade the game or my work nor do I want to offend anyone, but I do want the topic to be thought about.

So when my server goes up again I'll clean up the place. There are ways to get it right without offending and that are less obvious. I had a few discussions about it on different platforms - artists seem to have a totally different opinion btw.

But I can't understand why a naked human body is offensive but a human body beaten down by zombies or what not isn't =/

It's more offensive because zombies aren't real, but the systemic objectification of women is. There is nothing inherently offensive about the naked human form, but it's tricky tread to ground and you've handled it poorly.  Your use of nudity is obviously designed to play into standard heterosexual white male fantasies, with no point other than titillation.  And honestly, we have enough heterosexual white male power fantasies floating around.

This also isn't to say that violence isn't offensive or that it can't be more offensive than the objectification of women, but in your specific example, the objectification is the more repugnant.  This is for a couple reasons:
1) The actual graphics of your game aren't detailed enough to convey anything beyond generic cartoon violence.
2) Similar to 1, the in-game graphics aren't detailed enough to convey what the main character is.  Until I saw the "cover-art" I thought the main character was a generic robot.  Following that, the violence of what appears to be non-human on non-human is less offensive than that of graphic violence committed to a human.
3) The cover art is ludicrously gratuitous. You keep throwing out the word mature, but I'm not sure you understand what it means.  There is nothing mature about something seemingly designed to titillate 13 year old heterosexual boys.
