I posted a list of a few books in a thread like 5 below this called Game Design Recommended Resources.

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=33834.0

I still need to add more to my post. But starting with Chris Crawford is always good.

P.S. I like your Shoegazer pedal.

The only one that I think actually has any sort of decent lessons to teach and not just broad pontificating on the lines of "what is gams?" is Game Feel by Steve Swink.

Read Flow, from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, it's not about game design but it's damn important.

Some various perspectives you can read about for free on the web:
http://www.cs.rutgers.edu/~nealen/research/tmgd.pdf
http://www.cs.northwestern.edu/~hunicke/pubs/MDA.pdf, http://8kindsoffun.com/
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/165358/GDC_2012_Applying_psychology_principles_to_game_design.php
http://www.nicolelazzaro.com/the4-keys-to-fun/

Some Books:
http://www.amazon.com/Game-Feel-Designers-Sensation-Kaufmann/dp/0123743281/
http://www.amazon.com/Rules-Play-Game-Design-Fundamentals/dp/0262240459/
http://www.amazon.com/Challenges-Game-Designers-Brenda-Brathwaite/dp/158450580X/
http://www.amazon.com/A-Theory-Fun-Game-Design/dp/1932111972/
http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Game-Design-lenses/dp/0123694965
http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Game-Design-2nd-Edition/dp/0321643372/

Within these, you'll find references to hundreds of other works. Enough that you could be spending a lot of time reading that you could be spending designing games. You'll learn a lot more by actually making games, but it is good to get some perspective on things every now and then. So I'd start with just the online stuff, and use that to put what you're doing into some context.

If you're doing a platformer, the book I'd recommend most would be Game Feel.

Koster "Theory of Fun" and Schell "art of game design" are 2 of my favourites

dum i dont recomend any of these videos. they say everything you probablby heard before if you browsed a gaming enthusiast forum

Don't unreccomend everyone's suggestion unless you can provide something better or even at least partially useful in return.

Again, we should lump this thread in with the other recommended resources and should probably sticky it up.

And I love Sequelitis. Shit blew my god damn mind.

"What's the difference between beating some enemies to get an item needed to progress, versus beating enemies over and over to get hearts to go back and buy the item you need to progress?"

"ABOUT FOUR HOURS."

Sequelitis is classic man.

I just started extra credits. It's great but there's so much to catch up to X_X.

All my friends are busy with Game of Thrones while I'm watching game design haha. Gomez

Fuck Gam of Thrones. Wait... watch game of thrones, then watch EC... then do it again... backwards, or vice versa.

Sequelitis was great, daaamn.

Was Extra Credits from the Penny Arcade guys? Is really hard for me to take anything they do seriously. When they do games they do jrpgs and their comics sucks so hard.
