I'm planning to move to northern California in July, where I will be staying (because it will be free) until I have a job in Los Angeles, after which I will be moving to Los Angeles. So, ideally, I will be in LA some time this summer -- I will definitely be interested in meeting up if this turns into regularly occurring events!

Well, I'm in Bakersfield, and currently living on the road out of my car. If I could find a place around No/WeHo where I could actually park and camp out without getting ticketed or cash-drained (like a Wal-Mart/Denny's parking lot, or a 24h grocery store), I'd be highly tempted to take you guys up on this!
Been meaning to sniff around the area anyhow. I lived about half a year in Long/Huntington Beach (on PCH/Ximeno), so I'm not a complete stranger to the LA area.

I live in San Diego, we have a meetup group for game developers (mostly Indie/Hobby): http://www.meetup.com/sd-gameartanddesign/Going up to LA is a bit of a drive but if there is a big event happening we might head up. I once went up to LA for the Global Game Jam in 2010 I think. |

Honestly depends on where you're located. Downtown LA = oh hell no. West LA = Nice. Hollywood = Tolerable. Burbank = Great (okay I'm biased since I live in Burbank, but it's fantastic and a 20-30 minute drive to get to Hollywood and LA. |

A game jam in a coffee shop - in LA ? Genius ! There are super hip coffee shops in bev hills where a few stars hang out - best contrast ever some are big time gamers so imagine that, game jam with stars voice. Too bad I'm a bit far these days, I'd def join in  (oh and not all of LA is a dump, come on, have you lived in Topanga, or Santa Monica, west facing hollywood hills are not that deep in the orangs smog  |
