Launch trailer:

Story:
Congratulations you have died and gone to Hell. Whatís that you say? When your family and friends go through your stuff they are going to find tons, and tons of porn? Oh my, that is a situation, and the exact scenario our hero finds himself in. Travers the labyrinth of Hell, and defeat the Beast at the end for a chance to destroy all your porn before it is discovered.

Destroy the Porn is a mash up of the game play styles of Metroid and Super Meat Boy. It's a short 10 minute romp through Hell, and one that Iím sure you will enjoy.

This is a decent game with some charm in areas (I like the speech bubbles mid-gameplay.)

Has some issues though. You basically repeat the same level design 5-6 times with each item (falling down a pit that you can't get out of until you get the item) which becomes predictable. The boss is also pretty slow-paced for something that kills you in 1 hit. I got too impatient there and quit.

Heheheh that was pretty funny. The platforming wasn't as good as in Man's Quest, but it was still enjoyable. Nice work.

Small issue: you can shoot enemies off-screen, this made killing the turrets easier than you might have intended.

But.. you didn't destroy the porn....now Joe's mom will know about his dirty little secret.
In all seriousness, I appreciate the criticism. As far as the level design is concerned, I need to study up more on how other metroidvania style games handle this. I basically wanted to make sure the player understood the powerup before I let them loose, but I now see how that's very predictable.

I also agree the boss was a little slow. If I ever make another game with similar style to this in the future, I will try to find a way to make sure that does happen again.

I have reduced this a little. Unfortunately the problem lies more in the design of turret encounters. They are just not that interesting. I think I should have dropped the player in the middle of two turrets, and had them fight there way out.

This has been the error of the day for several people. It has been fixed now. Thank you for posting the actual error message. That was very helpful for debugging.

nice little game, i feel like the man now!!

things that were nice
- I liked the level design, nothing mega special but quite good.
- I liked the music, and the sample of the shotgun with the sample in the music was nice.
- I liked the writing and story, quirky.
- I felt frustrated at the spikey jetpack moment, but made it , that was good.

things that could be better imo

-you can see the titlescreen briefly when you die. (quite often..)
-I think the keys are awkward and you forget them. (maybe have some options that tell me the keys)
-the total download is quite big for what it is. (maybe quality of music ?)
-I wanted to play in fullscreenbut I still down't know if possible and how ?

First off I'm glad you liked the game. I think the problem with the spike room is that there was no ramp up to it. The challenge just sort of spikes real quick. I need to focus on not doing that.

All good points. I'm not sure what to do about the music though, but it is 50% of the file size currently. If there is a trick to lowing the size I need to figure it out for future games.

The bug haunts me. It haunts me Nikki Shocked. I don't know what is causing it, but I need to find out since I'm using the exact same room transition in the next game I'm putting out.

Thanks again to everyone for the critiques. By complaining about bad design habits I have now, I can work on getting rid of them for future titles.

I thought it was really well put together little game. The dialogue was great, good delivery and timing on the humor. The final scene back in the room was great. I like how it took me off guard before I figured out what I had to do. Great example of mechanics conveying emotions that work with the theme of the experience.

Most of criticism I can think of has already been said. On thing I will add, is that the text boxes should probably stay up for a just a little bit longer. I was able to read everything but only barely before the text box disappeared.

Look forward to the next title. Definitely want to see more of that writing!
