Holy cow, I like Kenji Eno, even he was not really an indie but I think he has ideas and balls.

Apparently hypertension trumps balls.  That's a data point for everyone.

I've never heard of him either, but I happened to find some of his music on youtube:

Hauntingly beautiful.

Damn it. He had finally gotten back into designing games again in the last few years, doing a WiiWare game that was utterly bizarre (typical Eno, of course).

D2 is one of the best survival horror games of all time; it's a shame to lose a guy like that.

It's rally a shame. (As I sadly thought, not many people know/remember him. Online there was some interesting interviews like this:

"Oh, no -- you'll find out about it. The next issue of 1UP will be a homepage! It's a secret...a secret like a beautiful ingredient. The text will be a sex FAQ. The homepage will be a sex FAQ. Kill the Bush! 9/11 was engineered by America, not al-Qaeda!"

That's amazing.

While that was an amazing piece of text, I think this is by far the best thing in that interview.

"I do think that it's a difficult game, but that's the good part of Enemy Zero. You know, when you eat curry, it's spicy. That's why it's curry. That's why it's good. So it's the same with Enemy Zero."

i think i played the original D for playstation long ago, my cousin was a fan of it; i didn't get too far in it. never played any of his other games

also from his photo he looks overweight, which probably explains dying of heart trouble at 42. i thought japan was supposed to be healthy!

I found D utterly baffling, but I appreciate it when people try something different. Sad news.

Was listening to the 8-4 podcast and they went out with some memories of him. He was a really interesting person with a philosophy that you can't focus on just one medium as an artist or designer.

Close to before he died he entered a contest under a pen name where you design a hot springs hotel. He won and they built it! He also spent a large portion of his working life working on different artistic endeavors. Often completely different from the previous endeavor.

He also did things like design a game then move on to carpentry. I can really identify with that philosophy. Binding yourself to a narrow facet of life is not healthy.

It's a shame, I feel like playing his games now, I never got a chance to play D, but it sounds like a weird-in-a-good-way kind of time.

D scared the hell out of a really young me. I was bought it accidentally because my Mother thought it was Vampire Hunter D. Thank you for the nightmares.

Never played D2, may check it out.
