Well, then they will get banned five times as harder.

I applaud for the idea that using announcements we can get more posts on tigsource. That is an excellent way to reduce the amount of work editors (mainly Derek) has to do to keep this place running. But having said that, I'm afraid that this might turn into the same kinda of a hell hole of copy-paste forum spams as the indiegamer announcement board turned into. Mmm... I also share this fear. This was all I could think about when this came up in the TIGProvement thread.

I'm pretty sure Derek can pull the plug if it ever gets that bad. The danger is small.

If you exclude people under 10 posts, IndieGamer's Announcement forum is used by people who have hundreds of posts at average and so they're contributing to that forum. Now if you like the community there or not is a totally another matter, but those people didn't just signed up only to post their own stuff and leave.
So the 10 posts barrier is a nice idea.

While this is a really good idea for a forum (because IMO, it's silly that if you make a game you can't post about it...), I think it would be a pretty terrible thing if it turned into a whole bunch of PR-speak bullshit instead of a 'Hey guys, look at what I made' sort of thing. I don't suppose there can be a general 'don't sound horribly slimy' rule? Or, at the least, a general understanding between gentlemen that you don't sound like an asshat from a PR department

I'm thrilled about the wonderful opportunity of tapping a previosuly unexplored markets this new functionality opens. I'm sure that the Announcements section will fit well into the creative ecosystem of our forums.
We, at TIGSource, will do everything to maintain the leadership in innovation in the ever-growing electronic entertainment industry.

I'm also happy about this addition. Even if people just advertise here, I'm always interested in new hobby and indy projects. Advertisments are good sometimes. Looking forward to see more announcements here

Wait, so can you only post finished games here? Or can dev threads go here too? Or should they go to Art and Design? Or Feedback? I'm confused.

So yeah, it gets a little fuzzy now. Here's how I believe it should break down:
Announcements - for finished games and "check this out!" type stuff, also a place to harangue us about stuff we need to put on the TIGS front page.
Feedback - for dev logs and WIP games...
If one of these projects gets finished, feel free to start a new thread in Announcements for it. Lock the feedback thread if you wish. Or ask a mod to move the whole thread over for you.
One of the things I wrung my hands over a bit was whether or not to mention games in the Feedback forum on the front page. I know not everybody would like that kind of attention on their game until "it's ready." So put it in the Announcements forum if you'd like a mention.
Art and Design - this is more about conceptual hallyballoo, tossing around ideas and so forth. You're more interested in talking about the idea rather than implementing it.
So in my mind, it's kind of like a parent raising a kid type thing. There's a forum for each stage of your child's life, but no one can tell you when you're ready for the next stage. It's a bit fuzzy.

That makes sense except for dev threads in feedback, cause you're not really looking for feedback when you're posting screenshots and stuff, and more like generating hype.
