It is a real glitch though. The door shouldn't be moving when the game is paused, and neither should the timer...  Big Laff

EDIT: Does this version look better? I made the ground included in the glitch effect now

Still just random junk flying about. You need to make the game look corrupted, not just put stuff on top of it.
Simulate drawing the wrong tileset, palettes, offset.

I'd make an edit but it's much easier for you to do from within the game.

it's not much, but this is what i've been working on for the past couple of days.



the idea was that she'd be holding a spear/sword while running, but the whole attack system is still kind of confusing to me.

runs pretty good, like the legs - remind me of megaman.  the idle doesn't work so much, but you probably realize that, maybe she should be crouched in a more active ready to attack state holding her spear.

Something like this would be probably the most accurate I think

The graphics in the glitch areas of that level are designed based on the kind of garbage one can usually find in the mapping tables in video memory. The weird level patterns that appear later on (e.g. the horizontal strips) are also common patterns when trying to read level data off-bounds (on Sonic 3 it's pretty easy to do this in Carnival Night, for instance).
