Thanks guys! I'm currently working on roughing out some attacks using the upper body. I don't want to use generic punches though since the plan is to make him fighting robotic enemies and such, so it doesn't make sense to fight with your knuckles. Also he'll be wielding a weapon so I'm experimenting with swinging that in some fashion.

The hero takes a little swim in Spooky Pooky ... This looks lovely! Also, a small detail. A lot of games will have pickups unaffected by water to stand out. Not the case here. I don't know if it's intentional, but I like that.

Hell VoidThe final version of the hell void! Hell voids are portals to hell littered with peering eyes. If the player gets too close he is sucked in like a vortex and its jaws snap shut with him on the other side. The closing animation is not yet completed.

This reminds me of the opening sequence to Chasm, a 2d metroidvania that was on these forums a while back. It looks nice, but just warning that it looks exactly like that, with the blacksmith in the same place and the background looking the same and everything.

this area of the game was heavily inspired by Chasm, but the game is nothing like Chasm (aside from being a sidescroller )

Seems intentional, given the way it works (basically anything under the shader is affected). Honestly it should be like that too, since everything underwater should be affected. One of those cases where realism actually makes sense. Note that if you mean games from old consoles, it's likely they do that for performance reasons or hardware limitations, not for attempting to make them stand out.

Thanks - yes that was intentional (as @Silk mentioned) as the shader does indeed just render over everything already rendered. It's a fair point about pick-ups possibly being harder to spot though - I was thinking about giving them a bit of movement, e.g. a bounce, to make them a bit more dynamic - hopefully that would help highlight them underwater too.

Distracted by your own creation? It looks like a promising start.
