I posted this over in the Devlog thread( http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=40974.0 ), but thought people might enjoy it here.

Just a quick portal animation

I like the style you have going w/ that tree. Also, the idle animation is creative.

Trying out Gifcam, with mixed results.. Not really liking the weird patterns and artifacts it creates..

I might have said this before, but I've never been a fan of ASCII. In fact... I hate it. I don't know if there's something wrong with my brain that just makes it impossible me to understand, but whenever I see an ASCII game, it just looks awful to me. There's nothing interesting about it and most of the time it just gives me a headache... but your art... seriously... it's fantastic. I don't know how you manage to pull off such awesome, smooth animations that way. Great job, man. Keep it up.

You had me concerned there for a moment... nice plot twist  Giggle

Related: I tried to get both animations on the same line so the post would not be as obtuse, but the 'move' block wouldn't allow it.

PS: credit to Zorg for the moonwalk idea. This is totally going in the game...

Probably because this is proper ASCII art, you know, the kind that used to be supreme during the BBS era. Most ASCII games you see are using much low quality artwork, basically being the equivalent to stickmans (assuming they don't take it even further and make every object a single character).

This is probably the same deal as comparing well-made pixelart against what's essentially a bunch of random pixels thrown together.

Pretty much, except I'm talking about stuff like this: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/imgs/dwarf_sites_4.png
and this: http://blog.bundle-in-a-box.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/QuarriesOfScred.png (no offense, DK)

Symbols meant to represent objects does not translate well with me. Then there are other ones with stick figures like you say. His game has stick figures too though. It's just he does such a great job of animation them and using varied symbols without looking weird.

Yeah but there are many who just get happy by doing this:
Code:
 O
-|-
/ \

At least in this case the graphics have detail, which makes a ton of difference.

Adventure puzzle game I'm working on. That character was suppose to be a dragon, but I ended up making him look like a dog. When I animated him, I went with the dog instead. Background tiles are all placeholders.

@Evildingo:
it's weird that the character is not pixel-based when everything else pretty much is. Also it feels like he's not the same resolution. But this looks cute nonetheless. Smiley

Thanks!
I actually finished the game, is anyone is curious.

The game quickly gets rather filthy in pretty much every possible way, so be warned.
