This looks like a Konami game straight from the Genesis and I want it.

Lovely style. What is it about?

Thanks alvarop!

It's a simple game about trying to rally support (protest) and gets harder to do so as more people are introduced. It's meant to be a very basic look at a deeper issue of how, sometimes we as society want change but it's often difficult to convince everybody that it's the right thing. It's a bit of an abstract way of presenting the idea, but people seem interested, so I only hope I pull it off!

lol =P

Honestly gonna be the mean one here and say that what irks me the most is that the color count and sound scream NES when everything else doesn't =/ (honestly I'd prefer taking it full blown 16-bit, but I can imagine the mess that would be redrawing everything now x_x)

I posted these on the screenshot saturday thread already, but hey, they're gifs.

also, experimenting with palette-cycling for water (I think this will be too slow to implement in Flash though):

Also, it will never look as good as this.

@DavidCaruso I could watch that background transition forever

Thanks, guys! Here's some more level art:

Wait, hipster? It's not like I've put in poetry readings inbetween levels (or well, not yet...?)

lol =P

Technically everything in that GIF is possible on an NES... with the caveat that I have infinite cartridge space to dedicate to CHR-ROM banks, lol. I like parallax abuse way too much to let restrictions get in the way! I guess we're going for a kind of "NES evolved" thing here (though we do have an actual detailed style guide), full 16-bit style is out of our budget and time commitment range sadly.

Trying to animate a fire. It needs a few more frames or maybe using the existing frames in a different order to make it longer, the loop less noticable.

I cannot unsee the gyrating dress, haha!

Perhaps the animation is too symetrical? It feels like a solid mass and not fire. More crackling and sparks, maybe?
