I've redone the movement system of my game Guild of Darksteel.
Here is a gif:

Those are some amazing effects and transitions.
This is some fine use of pico-8 restrictions. Especially the colors. What is the game going to be like?

Meanwhile I'm doing a raycaster for that same pico-8 fantasy console:

Combination of limited processing speed and fixed-precision numbers makes this no easy task, but I think it should be possible to make some "Wolfenstein 3d" esque game. Or something like "Zero Tolerance" for Sega Megadrive/Genesis, which is probably stylistically closer to what can be done here.

Thanks! It's gonna be an RPG like Cave Noire or Ultima meets Little Nemo. Not gonna fuck with procedural generation this time around. This is actually a sideproject of my main sideproject...

I saw this on Twitter earlier, it's incredible. If you get to a point where you want a graphics guy let me know, I'd love to work on something like that!

that's a really excellent palette, it feels super crisp. like how you use single pixel contrast spots as highlights, always nice to see great 8x8 work.

Thanks! I can take no credit for the palette though (it's a PICO-8 game), only the ramps.

I wrote a little tool for rendering glyph-based scenes, with a bunch of algorithms for doing patterns, shapes, transformations, and all kinds of other stuff. To test it out I made a bunch of dumb gifs.

waves

storm

noise pulse

color pulse

helix

RIP your bandwidth.

I would like to create a game with a really animated glyph-based aesthetic, like nothing seen before. But it's not gonna happen so here's some gifs.
