@Havok, good stuff.  Made me smile, as they totally fit the theme!   Tiger  I really like your instrument choices, and I love dissonance, but some parts of the melodies seemed to get a little TOO off the rails and dissonant.

To The Wayside, a collection of forgotten, abandoned, and miscellaneous tracks. Some songs are amazing, some are amusing, some songs are atrocious!

Part 1 65mb
Part 2 63mb

Oh man, that is so awesome!

Thanks ... actually it's a remix of a song, and listening back to the original I think I like it better ...  Undecided

My client didn't really like the remix, either.  Said it was too "busy".

Lesson learned: don't mistake "overdone" for "good".  But glad people are enjoying it anyway.  All may see an incarnation of it in Polymaniacs when it's finished!!

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I am well aware of some of the shortcomings of the tracks. My main problem is the Awkward Bot track towards the end looses its consistency. I'll be fixing that shortly. I used octatonic scales in the other tracks to give an interesting take on the music and I think it works pretty well. There's dissonance and whatnot but it lends to the atmosphere.

Since I got my AXiS49 I've been intended to actually write something with it but instead every time I just noodle around with it and improvise. I've had it about a month now, I think.

I finally forced myself to write a 2 minute song within an hour. It ended up only taking 30 minutes, though I probably could have reworked a lot of the phrasing and added more variations if I had taken the extra half hour.

http://files.getdropbox.com/u/254701/half_hour.mp3

Conclusion: yes, AXiS helps me compose. I wouldn't be able to harmonize that well if I didn't have it.

My internet is super slow at the moment, so I can't listen to the whole thing, but the beginning is pretty intense, Mr. Yes.

That's beautiful, serene! (like always Wink) But I suggest to make the piano-only part a bit shorter and the string part at 0:54 a bit longer. Also, the string entry seems a bit out of place - maybe some quarter notes earlier/later and less/more attack? The rest is fine and very cute! Really like it.

Some bits of minimal practice on my DS-10:

Around 50bpm or so, melodic stuff + delay works quite good on it.

Awesome.

I only do music as a hobby. I don't have perfect pitch at all, it's more like a really lousy one, so there's not very advanced harmonies going on. here's a track:

http://www11.nrk.no/urort/1.0/track/download/649765.mp3
it's called "Sprengt eksplodert ĝldur" , which translates to "Blown up exploded beer major".
And Oppspist Casio is what I call myself when I make music.
It translates to "Eaten to bits casio"

Feedback would be great, I'm kinda new to this whole music thing.

I've seen this game (which is amazing, though I don't particularly LOVE furries, like many others) so the epilepsy was for your music ...

I have a question if you don't mind ...

As for the question of what sort of music to create, how was it decided and how do you describe that style of music?

I think one of my best tracked pieces was the theme music from R-Theta II:

"The Aftermath"

Also, if you remember Soulliard's Viking Bazooka Bloodbath for the VGNG Compo, I really liked how the background music turned out:

"Berserker's Big-Gun Slugfest"

@Theta - I personally really really liked the music to your platform game. The Mr. Jones one. All of yours is pretty good, however; one of the better developer/composers out there, for sure. Wink

Thanks a lot!  I like to compose as much as I like to program; the two kind of go hand-in-hand when I make games.

Hey :D sorry didn't remember to check in here! Well Dean Dodrill (the creator of Dust) suggested what he wanted the game to sound like.. and linked me a few tracks.. well sent me some tracks. He has a big soft spot for YS stuff ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Sj28pVtf0&feature=PlayList&p=D43F807A6A30062E&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=15 ) So I followed that style.. To be quite honest.. I'm afraid to suggest a genre for it, to be safe, I will just say.. video game music?  Undecided sorry dude! haha, I can't really put my finger on it.. Japanese epic pop rock? I've said too much.

Thanks for the support, I love your track btw. And a lot of your other materials, I was blasting out your tunes yday :D

May I ask? What do you use for your music? I mean in particular, what VSTs did you use for 'Runner'

A friend of mine is working on a game that essentially needs an 8-bit esque sound.. but so far the vsts I have given him aren't really up to scratch for the sound he requires.. If it is a tracker you use, then.. nevermind Sad heheh. We're Cubase fiends in HyperDuck. As is my pal.
