@mono fair enough on the bass. Yeah new chords sounds good. I've just uploaded a collection of tracks i was working on in this kinda hip-hop/bass/electronic style... I'm definitely looking for feedback cos it's a style i love but i'm not all that experienced with it. http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/thingsimworkingonI like the first thing, the sythns in particular are nice, but something about the overall mastering of all 3 sounds muffled to me, kinda like you're missing the high end or something. Maybe try putting it through a good multi-band compressor to bring out the whole frequency spectrum

hmmm! I definitely agree on the weak snare of the first one. I'm finding it hard to get a hang of making the drums JUST right in that style... so thank you. You think just one clap is the best bet? Thank you Jackson - i worked a while on making some of those sounds (especially the bass sounds) while others were NI's massive presets! Multi-band compressor - thank you! I'll give it a try!

New one: The MeadowPiano piece. I picture it playing in the background on the title screen of a survival horror / adventure / suspense game. We see a peaceful-looking meadow, and grasses and flowers being blown by a gentle breeze. The camera follows a butterfly as it flits around. All looks calm. But wait... there's more here. Something isn't quite right. There's a tension in the air. Suddenly a darkness seems to permeate everything. The butterfly reaches the edge of a treeline, beyond which lies a darker area. Something happened here in the past... something very bad. And it may not be over... (Poorly written, but that should give you an idea of what I'm picturing in my head)

But, I think with the right visual design in a game, it could better give the sense you are going for.

Perhaps the creepy sounds should have been louder to give the listener some more unease, then gotten louder as the song progressed (particularly once it turns minor)? Part of what I like about it is the contrast between the peaceful nature of the piano and the eerie sounds in the background.

GraduationOr a school anthem, or something. I couldn't make my mind up I like this, but it didn't really remind me of school-y stuff, it's a little bit more tense than that to me... anyway, good job! Here's a loop i made for a game that i don't think is being made anymore, or at least the dev stopped responding to emails so i guess i can just post it here: http://soundcloud.com/launchablesocks/testtrack

@mono - like it! It got my head bopping instantly. The melody at the start made me think of march of the dreadnoughts from FFXIII Love the subtly extended chords at the end - it nearly sounds like the harmonic artefacts of the tone are producing complex chords but i think you played them - the F# in the second chord is a lovely dissonance. it's am7 right with the f#? I'm not too hot on chord names. @woos - hahaha that sounds like a similar experience to mine with the same game and dev. After a little chasing up I was kindly rejected hehe. I really like this track though. The timbres of the main instrument remind me of sigur ros. It's like a glock or a toy piano or something? What instrument is playing the main tune?

@Calum Bowen jeez... I know less of chords than you. I'm pretty much all self-taught. Would an "E m + D" be a valid answer? Also I'm happy that you liked it! What did you think of the improvised notes on top? I don't play keyboard that well either but I hope it was good enough.

I still have no idea what happened, he said he liked my stuff and he'd like to use it before he 'vanished'... anyway, i'm glad you liked the song =) the instrument you're referring to is actually a sample of a guitar believe it or not
