Vortex is the working title.  Here's the game in one long sentence:
You're part of an independent, intergalactic, space mining ship crew that travels from galaxy to hostile galaxy collecting powerful elements that you cash in by transporting thru matching vortexes to a greedy space corporation.

We are still in the alpha stages, so there's a lot of work left, music, sound effects, interface design, level progression etc...  But overall the main game mechanics and art style are where we want it to be.  We're open to any feedback, name suggestions, or you suck / you rock comments.  Thanks!

James, my partner in crime, is modeling and animating the ability pods.  In the game, your ship can shoot out these pods that do different abilities.  As the levels get more challenging, you will have to rely on these ability pods to keep up.  The most basic ability is the Vortex Pod, that explodes opening a vortex to transport your elements.  Each level starts with your ship firing off several vortex pods that open and pull-in elements in the area.  Then you can double-tap anywhere during the game to fire a selected ability pod.  Here are a few of the abilities that the pods can do:

  • Replicator Pod - Turns all visible elements within a range of explosion into the same kind.
  • Magnet Pod - Pulls all elements of the same kind, within range, into the center of the explosion.
  • Bomb Pod - Explodes instantly collecting elements with range of blast.
  • Electric Pod - Explodes shooting out electric arcs that jump to elements of the same kind within range, charging the elements with power and increasing their value.
