How about instead of making a dark version of a light-hearted story, which is overdone in itself (looking at you, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland), we instead take dark stories and make light games out of them. I could see something adorable and fluffy animal related coming out of Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum.

That sounds pretty fun. I'd be down for that. If we do do something like this, though, I'd want the ability to do happy versions of dark games, too.

I am imagining hilarious things from the "folktales" and similar ideas. A couple of game design themes I've tried in the past have been "Suits" and "What will games be like in the fruit-ure" although they're a bit more limiting than the standard TIGS themes.

I think focusing on Folktales and Famous Children's Stories(tm) would be optimal. There's just a huge pool of possibilities with that idea. And obviously you have a lot more than the traditional stories people keep telling over and over, there are treasure troves of interesting, obscure tales from all around the world you can bring attention to with your game. Hell, researching for the game would be half the fun.

The AGBIC compo got me PUMPED. Whatever the next compo is, I'm gonna get started on day one, and I'll be damn sure to finish it.
Also, just wanted to let you guys know that what you're doing here is a legitimately cool thing. I mean, you've got folks from Sweden, the USA, Canada - just random individuals from across the globe connected only by an artificial construct - getting together, starting up this amazing community and just building great stuff.
Manhugs for everyone.

A compo that involves taking a regular word, mutating it with another word, and making a game that is relevant to both words. The less related the words, the better. Passive-aggressive? Try Massive-aggressive. Motivational? How about Explodivational. Et cetera, ad nauseam.

Nice to see some interest in the idea! I've kept going random picking through TVtropes.org and there sure do pop up up some tropes that would translate great to plot and/or gameplay elements. Although the random link available att tvtropes isnt so effective, you'll often end up on pages about existing works. Would anyone be able to script some web tool to pick only random tropes and not shows/games/comics etc. ?

TV tropes takes up most of my life...
For a compo to be based on it would result in a nice intersecting of personal interests (game design, and fucking off on the interweb).

If you get a non-trope, you'd re-roll, I assume.

We'd have to get someone to do the rolls then, because you could just re-roll at whim.

Personally, I would prefer it if someone rolled for me.
If I rolled/chose for myself, I'd be there all damn day and get nothing done.

So what's the usual interval between competitions? Will it be a few months before we have another one?
'cause I'd be said if that were the case. TIGSource should be developing all the time!

TVTropes does sound like a cool comp idea. And if you get a title of something, you can always demake/trope that (or even just a character from it), like a spinoff. Add that to the list of "must eventually do's."
@ PbN: If TIGS did that, nobody would ever complete their core projects, either. There's always something on the burner, I think the comps are just kicked in so people don't hit burnout on their own stuff. Plus, it's good "keep it simple" fodder.
