Christmas compo. Christmas- and/or anti-christmas-themed games.

Baconman: Fair enough. I'm just being hot-blooded here. PEOPLE SHOULD WORK ON TWO GAMES SIMULTANEOUSLY IF THEY REALLY WANT TO BE INDIE Halloween compo, since that's coming up. Make some awesome Halloween spooky games, have fun making Halloweeny-sounding music.

DOUBLE TAP COMPO. You have to create TWO small games, which tie in together in some significant way.

BiStickle Compo: The game must use two analog gamepad sticks for main gameplay control.
Meh, just something to think of.

from:to Make a game specifically for a single individual. Could be someone you love or hate or have never met or see every day. Maybe even someone who ain't alive any more. Maybe you want to tell them something or give them something to think about, or just something they'd enjoy. Could come along around Christmas time.

@Xion Your from:to idea is similar to Xmass Hack held here: http://xmashack.wasyl.eu/2009/welcomeXmass Hack has been going on every Christmas for quite a while. It recently changed its rules to allow non allegro entries, but it is run by the allegro community. The event has a secret Santa dynamic where you submit game ideas which are anonymously delivered to other participants. Sadly completion rate is pretty low so the odds are about even whether your game idea will be completed or not.

I like this a lot (didn't know about the allegro thing). Great potential for cathartic moments too.

But would the games really still hold any emotional impact? It's not like anybody will know the person you're making it for, so all of the games would just be completely personal. I still want the folklore compo.

Folktale is still my personal favorite from the ideas suggested recently.
Compos are always awesome. I'l probably organize the next one too if Derek oesn't announc anything for a while.
I guess it'd be a good idea to post a topic everywhere in the damn forums about it so people stop missing it.

folktale! i have doubts about the logistics of a from:to compo, even if it would be cool.

Humph. I've been thinking of an "X as (different genre)" for a while. Like Doom as IF or better yet, N (the game with the ninja) as an RTS!

I've been reading the first post again, and god, a lot of those ideas sound stupid to me now, I don't know what we were thinking... Anyway I bring back a few cool ideas from the past: -Early 80's arcade -least generic mascot -sports compo -very short games

Yea I still like the sports idea. Folktales sounds cool too since its a rich theme with a lot to draw from.

I think the 'Sports Compo' theme is doomed to always be the bridesmaid. Folktales sounds good to me. How about non-games? This could include IF, art-games, interactive toys, etc. Also, I'd like to see a 'Party Games Compo' i. e. multiplayer from one machine, but I think the judging would be difficult.

The beginning is The End
What happens after the band leaves the stage? What goes on in the random town after the HERO saves the world? What happens after Mario beats Bowser and saves the princess?*
OR
Start from the end of a game and work your way back to the beginning. Inverted learning curves could end up being ridiculously frustrating though...
*OK, bad example. Everyone knows she gets kidnapped again.
and again.
and again.

This thread is already far too huge. Maybe it's time to make an effort to undo it, compile the majority of the ideas into another list, and start a new one.
maybe we should limit the number of ideas that 'survive' past this thread to, I dunno, 50? There's a fucking ton.
