What about taking your favorite character from movies and make a game only about him?

What about taking a list of authors from a specific era or genre and then making games based on their works. Something like Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Pushkin.

If you included Chekhov or Gogol in that list you could count me in.

Yes, of course. Gogol's books would make for some great games.

I saw a blog post here that gave me an idea: games involving physical contact between people. It could be a hand-holding platformer, or a fighting game, or a sex rhythm game, or a strategic zombie infection game, or whatever, so long as it is about people touching each other.

Wordless Games Compo There must be no words (written or vocalised) or other abstract symbols in your game. Everything in it must be "real" to the environment. No arrows showing you what buttons to press, no musical notes, swastikas, power button symbols, or even those abstract symbols that appear around some anime characters' heads to let you know what their overly-simplistic faces fail to communicate. No written instructions - so it has to be intuitive. The controls and gameplay (at the beginning, at least) ought to be easily figured out. Or not! Maybe you'll go against normal interactivity conventions and see how long it takes players to work out how to play.

Awesomely Mundane CompoYou take a simple, normal concept, such as "a boy goes to the park" and turn it into an over-the-top, oh-my-gosh-this-is-crazy game, such as "a 30-year-old boy with giant muscles goes to the zombie infested dog park armed with radioactive hamster nunchuks and a single stand of Chuck Norris' beard." Also, I like the idea of Revenge of the idea men, because sometimes idea men have the most absurd ideas that they reeeeaaaalllllyyyy want in the game, for example (yes, this quote is real): So, I was trying the alpha of your Wolfenstein 3D mod, and I was wondering if you could, say, give the player the ability to climb walls? It would add a cool stealth element to the game. Little did this poor idea man know that wolf3D's walls are too short and old for climbing...

If he already has a single strand of Chuck Norris' beard, does he even need the nunchuks?

THINGS THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE BEFOREInvent a new genre. Not some crazy variation or hybridisation of existing genres; something that's totally unclassifiable in terms of what has gone before. First prize goes to: A Cave Story Ripoff!

Hells YES. The only problem I see with that is people inventing a genre they've never known to exist, only to have it shot down partway through production when it turns out it already has been done in some way or another. A lot of topics would pop up only to be abandoned. (And bumped again by people discovering more examples of the genre.) But yes, that would be a great challenge.

Yeah... that could be a problem. But, maybe we just let people fly blind, and only tell them afterwards? In this case, what one doesn't know won't hurt them.
I'd also like to agree with both This AND the Single Enemy ideas. Both cool. Pertaining to Things You Ain't Never Seen Before, I'd love to see what one Earth we come with. Could be fun.

Isn't wolfenstein 3D a 2D game mathematically? From what I remeber it's just the grafical representation that's 3D, there's no up/down dimension in the game Also :D

Totally, it boggles the mind. If there were thirty or so games, none of them a shmup, platformer, RPG, FPS, RTS, IF.. what would they be like?

How about an ADHD competition? You start out with no general idea for what you want to do, and then add stuff that you think would be cool, without thinking about the consequences. One example would be Frog Hunt by Free Lunch Design

Click "Random article" on Wikipedia (or EncyclopediaDramatica for moar lulz) and make a game inspired by the page that comes up. Here's three doozies I got off ED: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Zero_Whitefang"Zero Whitefang is a fatass weeaboo furry who is on an epic quest - to gain as much f***ing weight as he can. Appropriately enough, his fursona is that of a morbidly obese dragon." http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Port_Arthur_massacre"The Port Arthur massacre is Australia's staged, lame-ass version of 9/11, with only 35 people dying, and they actually caught someone doing it." http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Catnarok"The most awesome thing the world has ever witnessed Longcat and Tacgnol will meet at the chosen ground on Caturday and begin their long, sacred battle. This battle between light and darkness will endure for a thousand æons, but the passage of time will seem like just a few seconds. It will be an even match, a purrfect balance, so neither can fail. It will thus be an epic win, as the world is cleansed of faggotry and AIDS." _

This an actual original idea (I mean one that hasn't been proposed a dozen times before) and I like it so it got my vote

I don't really like the idea of using ED. A lot of the articles are really nasty/slanderous, like that one about Zero Whitefang.
On the other hand, Wikipedia has potential.
