I see people complain about Greenlight and Valve's policies, but devs forget that PC games is what people want to play when they buy on Steam. We are in 2013, 8 bit graphics belong to mobiles, NES, and direct sales. Masses, who play on Steam, want decent visuals. There are exceptions of course, but those exceptions happened when "indie" was something new. I dare to say 2010 is when it all began to fade away.
bs, did you actually see games that are getting on Steam from Greenlight?

Not sure, Anodyne got on Steam. It is about the game, not just about the graphics after all.
Yeah, I've heard that before. To get on Steam, you need either to have a game Valve likes, or have a game that already has numbers (whether sizable amount of users or previous sales from your website). Graphics matter for most people. Sure, if gameplay sucks, graphics won't save the game. But people expect decent visuals.

That tells me you don't visit Steam store quite often, mister If you visit store right now, there are a 3 Greenlight games in the front page top roll: Darkfall Surgeon Sim Eador I've been seeing more and more Greenlight games being released as this isn't a first batch. Check Steam's blog: http://store.steampowered.com/news/?feed=steam_blog

So you're proving that the graphics weren't the point.

Oh, I didn't miss being on TIGSource and for a good reason.
Read my post carefully and you shall find the answer.

Cool stuff, good luck! Let us know how it goes with GoG, please. I submitted my game to the service and they rejected it, stating it doesn't fit their format.

Do you mind showing me some footage of the rejected game. I would also be interested in what they meant by "wrong format", did they elaborate a bit on it?

Don't take it as my word since I haven't played it but may be, just may be, it is because of this:
"Simple, explosion-packed action is what SS:BR looks like, and that's exactly what it'll deliver. Nothing more, nothing less."

Hmm.. That's someone's subjective opinion. My thinking is that I am nobody, and Steel Storm isn't a cash cow for a third party who is after fat profits. Thus, GoG rejected it.
From a business perspective, each game (unless it's utter crap from any angle) will find its niche, and thus will generate revenue.
If you look at the GoG's collection of indie games, most of them from either established indies and some indie mega hits, not to mention that there isn't many indie games on GoG at all (I was under impression GoG was like Greenlight - full of all kind of indie games). So from business perspective, maybe GoG only accepts games that already made a pile of money or have a name attached, which helps enormously.

i guess in addition to that they also accept indie games they feel would appeal to their core audience (that is people who like old PC games). for example legend of grimrock, driftmoon, eador, gemini rue.

Perhaps. Although Steel Storm is as old school as it gets, it's a bit on hardcore side of spectrum.

yeah I don't see why they rejected it, actually if it was on the humble bundle, that might actually be the reason

I don't know if it's true but my feeling is that they avoid non-old game if it's not something particularly remarkable. The video of this game looks cool, but compared to the few (3? 4?) non-old non-their-own games they sell, it's not really particular isn't it? OR they just limit the count of non-old indie games so that it don't become the majority of their catalogue?
