thanks for the feedback! i agree that it definitely needs to be shortened and broken up. i realized that Petrolimus' monologue was pretty unclear. diagrams would be a really good and entertaining way to better explain, but since im a little drawn out, i decided to just try and make his speech more clear. if i have time before the release (or definitely in future versions) more frames/animations and illustrations will definitely be added. so heres my new script revision:

original:
what are you doing here slimeball?

i've come to inform you that this quaint little heath is going to be the home of my new oil drill! with this last bit of oil extracted i will be able to finish my indomitable fortress city, petropolis!

why  big miles into the ground for a insignificant amount of fuel  when there's heaps of sunlight hitting every squarefoot of the Earth's surface every second?

fools, the petroleum is not just a fuel, its a means of control! through pollution,  all will be consumed within the vicious cycle of dependency. enslaved by the poison yet forced to embrace it for sustenance and industry! but enough talk! i have environments to pollute!

 *soars off*

new:
what are you doing here slimeball?

From this meadow, i will extract the last bit of oil needed to finish my indomitable city, Petropolis!

Why would you dig for oil, when there's abundant fuel all around us?

Fool! Petroleum is not just a fuel, its a means of control! As alternative resources are destroyed through excavation and pollution, reliance on a fuel that only i possess increases!

But there will always be sun and wind!

We'll see about that! Soon all will be dependent on me! but enough talk! I have environments to pollute!

i think the new script is a lot less clear than the old one, expecially because you don't talk about the sun rays but only about "fuel around us" and only at the end about sun and wind... dunno  Shrug

i believe i changed it to energy in the final version. currently i feel like the project falls way too short of the things i believe and would like to express/share with people, especially when it comes to game play. so im back to the drawing board as to how to let people experience my message, rather than just telling them. i'll let you know when that inspiration bubbles up, or when i raise enough money to begin my cabinet!

Wow!  Didn't see that coming, Micheal.  Shocked   I have no idea how to go about doing such a thing, but I wish you the best of luck!  Beer!

Maybe you could change the design to make the solar panel a separate unit, conected by some (possibly long) cable. On practice this would make it easier to protect the cabinet from environmental hazards (i.e. rain - you could just put a tent over the cabinet), ease glare problems and make players happier since they wouldn't need to burn under the sun to play a game =)

Also, emulators would be nice, but could lead to legal woes, perhaps?

ya, for events i would want to bring it out, but then i would want to keep it inside the rest of the time. in light rain, the panel itself will be the roof, and in heavy rain it wont be outside. the roof, which will be tilted towards the sun and therefore inbetween the sun and the players, will decrease glare and heat

since the hardware will just be a little computer i'll definitely pack in emulators and roms, since it isnt a commercial endeavor i dont anticipate many problems

ive been recently told that the departments of transportation commonly have a lot of used solar panels, so im going to look into that.

You might want to look into some of the lower power-consumption boards that people are playing about with lately.  I dunno if this would be completely ideal for an arcade machine, but I figure it would be a good idea to let you know if you weren't already aware of this sort of thing.  For instance, the Beagleboard seems to be a fairly popular board:

http://beagleboard.org/

from the "Project Details" page: "Power via typical USB chargers for cell phones from your laptop, from an automobile adapter, from batteries, or even from a solar backpack"

considering it can run Linux and can run HD video and OpenGL applications (the Ogre3D demo video is probably linked to via one of those two youtube pages), I'd figure it would be powerful enough for some MAME emulation
