You've gotta use that bug as a character in the game now.
hahaha oh gosh, what would I make him do.

Every season he appears and destroy/steal our farm.

Okay goddess, you're being super selfish.

She'll accept my gifts, but won't give me friend points for it. I'm trying to make this work for a script but it just will not work via script, so I'm going to have to hard code accepting items, I think its just a system flaw with my engine. Oh well!

Use that sketch for his up-close face.

He could be the witch princess's familiar, who could be troublesome or sweet depending on how you want to work out the characters. Maybe he interferes with the player and earning his respect is one step towards melting the heart of the witch princess.

Or he could be an NPC all his own that lives out in the forest and trades insect wares for vegetables, like bug nets, tuxedos and dresses made from spider silk.

Or some combination of the two.

I honestly see him actually being the Witch Princess's familiar that constantly tries to mess with you, but isn't very good at it.

Kinda like this guy.

OKAY

I THINK THE CHAT BOX IS DONE FOR THE MOST PART. Everything seems to be working and is very flexible code wise, which is what took me so long, but it should be worth it now that I can add dialogue easy.

YOU CAN GIVE NPCS ANYTHING BUT TOOLS.

I can rest.

Chat system is 100% done. That was painful. Its over and it was needed, finally, rest. I don't know what I'll start tomorrow but I'm glad I got this out of the way.

Every NPC has a favorite item, and an item they hate. You can't give NPCs your tools.
It seems so simple, but a dialogue box is one of the most complex features i've ever coded, maybe I coded it poorly but that was a rough 2 days I had. Glad I can move on, and I'm glad I didn't take the lazy route because now adding dialogue is gonna be x50 as fast.

They are spread out in between the devlog section of tigsource, none of them are worth any effort to find, mostly prototypes I'd spend maybe 5 hours on within a span of 2 weeks on then drop

Just a little thing to improve the game a bit, all npc's will show a heart if they increase in FP, and a mad face if they get a item they don't want.

You mean a heart icon or a sad face icon, or you mean you'll have different portraits with different expressions? The latter should definitely happen at some point.

Also I know it was said earlier, but when you clean up the Goddess's portrait, try to make her hands not look like she just has huge breasts. It's hard to not see it that way.

Both of them, the portraits already technically can change images, but i don't have any drawn sprites.

Yeah this portrait is just a really really quick sketch, when I pixel the final picture I will make sure I think its perfect.

I'm experimenting with color palettes, I don't know much about them but I want to use one on my game, so I'm gonna be playing with colors for a while.

They're not that good. But thats fine this is my first time wanting to use a palette so i'll get it down eventually..

Nothing is permament, just showing off the experiments.

I like my orignal colors the most still, but they don't follow a palette so i'm afraid they're gonna not look so great in the end.

I'll mess around with palettes another time, I don't want to ruin this game with a lack of palette experience.

Anyways the NPC has basic AI, they can walk around and look around. Its kinda cool.

Hey there Conker. Nice progress all around!

As for the palette thing, I suggest you tweak it later on, your current color palette is not bad at all, it's very colorful and saturated and fits perfectly with the style you got going there, very SNES/16-bit vibe. So don't worry too much about that. If you want, later on you can tweak certain hues but I see nothing wrong with it.

I'm so looking forward to playing this! I want to make games like this with GM but I'm still such a newb, having tons of trouble making my platformer prototype...
