try to turn the beam you shoot into your unique light source, so you need to shoot constantly to keep track of the asteroids I've been experimenting with it but didn't work well. And there's another gameplay element which renders constant shooting quite a bad idea in most of the situations. I can definitely envision someone obsessively shooting and trying to fill the screen with light, and going insane with stress. That's a Lovecraft story in the making right there. awesome. :D for the above reasons, however, I aim to achieve player insanity in another way, tho. but, you'll be able to see it for yourself as the final game will be posted within 48 hours (the OS X version should really be ready by tomorrow).

I can't wait to play this thing and discover your evil twist for myself. Sounds ominous.
EDIT: Highscore 1030! How's everyone else doing?
Hrmm, your twist is good. Makes an otherwise dull game rather frenetic.

I wanted to play this, but apparently you did something wrong @ line 81 in joystick.hpp. ("Expression: i < numButtons_")

Played it, and while the idea is really neat it's really hard. Then again, I always sucked at asteroids.

Fun. This game is trickier than it looks. (slight spoiler) I didn't realize that constant shooting was a bad idea until I read your post about it. It gets much tougher when you lose track of the ships, though, and that happens quite often. You kind of start shooting around just to hit that one ship you can't see and, suddenly, you've accidentally doomed yourself. (end slight spoiler) Even after finding a reasonable strategy, I find it too hard. It took me a while until I got past wave 1. The opponents always seem to hit me dead on, maybe they should be a bit more human.

I'm one of the Asteroids players who never moves the ship, using it like a turret. As you can imagine, I found this version to be very difficult.

I liked the way you are encouraged to conserve shots because any stray ones are likely to come back and hit you. Finding the black asteroids was cool, but the lonely, scary feeling fades when all the enemies turn up. Still, neat.
