Old Shizzle:hey guys, i am sure you have seen me at least somewhere on here... my game the jasper chronicles has been shut down by me for a while due to my lack of motivation to continue it. however, today i had a blast of inspiration. i thought to myself, why not make a game that is actually challenging? why not make a game that involves a lot of jumping, but has a limit on how much jumping you can do? i came up with A Mans Dream (Title's a WIP). basically, you have a limited amount of energy and every time you jump, that amount decreases. as the game progresses, levels get harder and harder, with more and more jumps you have to make. theres only three levels right now, but im planning on adding many, many more. ---------------heres the main build download! https://www.dropbox.com/s/75nyzx2nc65frjt/a%20mans%20dream%20build%205.exe?dl=0the game now has 14 levels and 1 testing level! making progress! screenshots and gifs: but wait... how do i control my guy?! what can i play using?! BLARGH?!well, here, i suppose i should probably include my key bindings. for playing with mouse and keyboard:w and d are for left and right space is to jump you fall if you let go of space until you land on something. h is for help s is for saving l is for loading escape quits the game and is going to bring you to the title screen in my newest build, (this is as of september 4 2014) + + gets you into the testing room. that or you could simply complete the game. no biggie. shift + left or right makes you sprint in that direction for playing with a logitechf310 gamepad like i use or any pc based controller that is fairly standard:left stick = movement left and right a = jump dpad left = left dpad right = right left bumper = toggle running/running On the subject of BLARGH: Blargh! blargh.

DAY 5: This project wont be anything too large, just something to keep me busy for a little while. In other news: messing about with a wall jump idea in my head that takes double energy to use. In other other news, added a sprint button. useless but fun :D

okay, i just updated the executable, your gonna have to re-download this to get the updates. Changelog: added sprinting (useless) added backgrounds added fog for decreased visibility added 2 new levels added clouds for the foreground that can obscure you even further in combination with the fog updated game link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y8z1hoqpflml5pp/a%20mans%20dream.exenote: know that the message that comes up at the end and small splashscreen are things that i cant deal with until i get the full version, hang tight,

You have an interesting concept and it can be used to create some really interesting puzzles. I found two small bugs while playing however. 1.The player sometimes gets stuck to the corners of blocks mid jump. 2.If you fall off in the third level you won't die in less you hold the jump button and bring the counter down to zero. My suggestions would be to fix that screen size readjustments between levels. Just make one view size for each room. The jump from one room size to the next looks really bad in a windowed mode. I'd also recommend starting the level's jump counter at 25 rather than 11, since it maxes out at 25 it should just start there, it's a bit frustrating that every level starts with hardly any jump power. Keep it up I'd like to see where this project goes.

@TNERB, 1: i haven't had that happen to me before, but ill try to find the issue. it should be easy enough to just make it so that its got a side that sort of bounces you if you hit it on the 180 axis, ill get to work on that once i have access to a pc. 2: i was a little lazy there, sorry. im planning to make it if you fall out of the level you die, to add to the challenge of the game. 3: yah, i think personally i should try to make it default full screen, again, ill do that once im at a pc. 4: i saw that and was a bit lazy, to be honest. ill fix that as well. the main reason i cant get to a pc is that im at a friends overnight today, and tomorrow for four days im at a house where i only have a mac to work with, and the only pcs i have there don't have gamemaker on it, and i cant use them. sorry. in other words, ill be about a week before i can put out another updated version. Dx in other news, did a rough sketch of a new level and thought you might like to see it. edit: took the photo upside down

alright TNERB, thanks to that, i did some fixing, here's what i ended up with: The character now uses a mask the same shape as the character himself. one of the good things with this is that when you lay your head on a block you hang on, making it easier to Regen your energy in a tricky situation.
i also ended up making it so that if you fall out of the level, the level restarts. now, onto the smaller bug fixes. ill update this once Ive fixed everything, and by that point i should have a new build for you and the other people who are following the project.
i also ended up making it so that the energy starts at 25.
i also found out that the link for the game is the exact same whenever i update it, so you just need to reclick the link and re download the game.

Day 6: working on a build involving keys and doors. when i made the keys they floated in mid air so i made them effected by gravity. should be cool if i decide to do something involving keys on moving platforms or other things that are effected by gravity.
