I keep hearing good things about Call of Cthulu... is it worth my Goozex points?

Depends what you want from a horror game. While the graphics are undoubtedly somewhat old, the situations you will encounter will certainly disturb you, and the sound effects are more than fitting. I've played Silent Hill and I find CoC more unsettling. CoC is more unpredictable while in Silent Hill the general structure of the game was: Rooms containing puzzles and the monster infested corridors that separated them.

By the way, since there are people who hate FPS games, I have to note that CoC is equal parts first person adventure (solving puzzles and stuff) on one hand, and shooter on the other, but they are seperated, i.e. you won't have to dodge bullets while solving a riddle at the same time.

It starts out great, you are scaping from stuff, has a good atmosphere and everything. Then it becomes a standard FPS about shooting deep ones with a rifle. So, if what you want from a Lovecraft inspired game is to headshot deep ones, it's good. Now, why would someone want that from a lovecraftian game, I don't know.

The pre-battle naration really set the mood to this game at the time.

This game was awesome, and really fucked with your head.
Yea, love that game. Although it took me a few years to finally complete it. But the atmosphere in that game is beyond words.

Well, it appears someone already posted Silent Hill 3, however, I'm still gonna give my two cents.

Silent Hill 3

I'm a little late on the Silent Hill boat, but 3 struck me the most in terms of atmosphere. Silent Hill alone is great for this kind of thing, but like I said, 3 struck me the most because instead of twisting the usual town, it twists new, stranger locations, such as a theme park, mall, etc. That just really pulled me in.
