Well I think it's satisfying, it's not about a few buttons, but the problem is more like mandatory enemy bridge with no choices or options, and the possibility of being stuck or insta death if failed. Current sonic are loath because of that. This mechanics is great if it mixed with situation where the player can improvised and instead of doing the designer's wish, or if it is on "puzzle platform" alt path opportunities. Think mario super play and less sonic 4.

The problem people seem to have with Sonic is the feeling of lacking control. If I feel in control then I won't really mind if not welcome the game challenging me to master that control to overcome challenges here and there as in that gif. I don't see the problem with having death as the consequence rather than an alternative easier path, but Ι'm sure the full game will have more varied challenges and situations than a gif.

It's much more complex that just the feeling of lacking control, the latter sonic until generation was literally that kind of challenge only, it's too binary, you either succeed or you die and the execution is always the same so it's a matter of rot learning/muscle memory at worst.

But What i'm saying isn't that it's not legitimate, it certainly serves as a punctual challenge, especially as a sequence to teach the player the technique, but if it's all there is to the game and it does not expand on, then it's "bad".

For example imagine a boss who fire projectile who move in sinusoidal line, that you can dash on, and there is occasionally a bird that fly above the action and then above that bird there is a bonus that give you some advantage. Depending on the configuration you can either dodge projectile the normal coward way and have little time window to wear down the boss, you can use the bird as a more clever evading move by timing bouncing of the projectile to buy time to wear down the boss, you can use it to reach the bonus and have a buff, you can use it to get closer to the boss at greater risk or if you are really good spend most of your time comboing dash in the air with perfect timing and wear the boss really quickly by taking full advantage of the time windows and pursuing him to its safe spots at the expense of greater challenge by timing everything correctly.

Good challenge are layered and learned technique feedbacks into abusing them so the manipulation itself became a challenge when the obstacle is no more a threat. That is once learned there is still more to improve on or new arrangement to find.

My goodness, the colors are so appealing. At first glance I thought it was wreaths made of flower petals, but looking closer it seems to be rock formations or coral? I love how that looks!

Actually it was a Pangolin, and I agree he is breathtaking.

This looks really cool. Is there any leveling / character ability development over the course of the game?

Not as of now. We want to keep the gameplay pure. The only things that change from world to world are environmental hazards and enemies. However, we have thrown around the idea of getting different sords, but I'm not sure if we'll get around to that.

Wow, looking nice so far, especially that cave! Is that white on the ruins supposed to be cobwebs or something (trying not to think dirty like Impmaster...)?

We added a bunch of sound effects. You can't hear them here. Gifs don't have sound. Curses.
