I should've been devlogging here before, but, well, better late than never. Here's RimWorld, my space colony sim, in the vein of DF, Dungeon Keeper, Prison Architect, and The Sims. ------------- UPDATE: All right! The Kickstarter is open. All the good info is right here: RimWorld KickstarterAnd the Greenlight page: RimWorld on Greenlight------------ I made the first public video today, here she be: Game landing page at my site: rimworldgame.comScreenshotshttp://ludeon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Shot1.jpghttp://ludeon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Shot2.jpghttp://ludeon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Shot3.jpghttp://ludeon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Shot4.jpg

It looks a lot like Prison Architect's style. I like some of the visual effect stuff you've added as well. Strong contender for me wanting to play this, especially because of the theme. Can you share a bit more about your design ideas and where you intend to go with this in this devlog?

Looks interesting, I'm curious to know more about it. The video shows some gunfire battles, what's that about? other humans or aliens?

Always other humans (though the may be members of modified factions, engineered or evolved into pseudo-human forms). The universe I'm developing for this game is alien-free, but human life is widespread and disconnected enough (due to the lack of FTL travel) that there is a ton of diversity among "humans". There may be dwarfs (e.g. short people evolved for high-gravity worlds).

Exciting, someone else venturing into the vast space of the galaxy. Welcome :D
Slavery, I certainly like to see how that turns out for the princess. You mention DF and seem to be detailed about the personell, are you going into as much detail as DF does?

I love DF, and this game feels to be in the same vain so I'm certainly going to follow this devlog for a while.
Also I wish you good luck on your kickstarter (which I'll throw some money at in a couple of days), but having no 10~15 dollar tier may drive away some people for no good reason. Is there a specific reason for this?

I think you'll be needing stretch goals very soon!
That said, very nice video, and it felt very authentic. I generally don't pay for kickstarters even when the project is exciting if I feel the guy 'in front of the camera' is full of shit. I'll definitely contribute to your kickstarter!

Looks good. I love things like this. Looking at the screenshots it looks like you could have scope for emergent gameplay via the creation of devices. If you are a fan of Dwarf Fortress I am sure you understand what I mean.

Wow this game is a lot further along than I thought from your screenshots. It also makes me insanely jealous, good job! Good luck with the Kickstarter/greenlight, it looks like you'll make it

That looks really nice although the art style is very similar to the PrisonScape ( yeah, I guess you'll hear that alot ). But visuals to the side - I like the idea behind the game, how the AI Storyteller will guide your gameplay experience with events and such things. Also, I like the details of every "colonial" and how can you get new members their proffesions etc. Overall, pretty impressive project! PS: Sorry, I can't help you with kickstarter money wise but I'll gladly help you sharing the news on twitter etc.

I have to be honest that I wasn't a fan of everyone going after the Minecraft style graphics, and is now the Prison Architect style going to be a thing? I'm going to have to be grumpy and say that I don't like it.

He says on the KS that it's placeholder graphics, part of the KS money will go on hiring an artist.

The AI Storyteller might be a hard-to-sell feature. Technically, its invisible, and to the untrained eye, it might look 'random'. It will need to be particularly good to emulate better gameplay, and yet, still random enough that players don't start expecting things (oh yeah, I've had a lot of food for this amount of time, so raiders will come in shortly!). Also, it shouldn't punish players to anticipating events (having a lot of food stockpiled shouldn't necessarily trigger a lot more aggression, otherwise, it would defeat the point of planning for the worst).
And yes, the visual needs to change, but that's precisely the point of the KS campaign (along with kickass music).
