We thought we'd let the TIGSource forums get a peek before the DR2 kickstarter is launched tomorrow morning.
What a selfless display of generosity

And how can there be a sequel to dino run anyway?

Hey, I just saw this on Kickstarter!  That's pretty awesome.

Any particular reason you didn't include any stretch goals?  That seems to be a pretty popular thing for gamers.

Well, I'm sure you won't need it, but good luck.

The Dino Run 2 Kickstarter is LIVE!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixeljam/dino-run-2

We are SUPER-excited about this. We've been dreaming and imagining what Dino Run 2 would be for a very long time, and have spent the last few months working on the campaign.  We can't wait to bring this game into the world, and we hope that you will consider & be excited about helping us create it.   Also, please tell everyone you know!  It would be awesome if we could get a solid momentum going in the first few days.

Thanks so much!  Next post we will include more images, animations and details for our vision for Dino Run 2. In the meantime you can read & see the details on the Kickstarter page.

Stretch Goals: We will reveal some stretch goals once we start to come close to reaching our goal.  We have some ideas we're excited about, such as adding more Dino Types to play as, including the fearsome Carnotaurus!! Also different times to run in.

Sequel to Dino Run:  It's definitely a game that can have an epic sequel. The dinos that survived prospered in their underground sanctuaries for ages and their future generations emerge in eras unknown to Dinosaurs, including the Crataceous and Modern Day! All with unique Doom types and varieties.

Hello again!

The Dino Run 2 Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixeljam/dino-run-2) continues to move towards its goal!  Thank you to all who have already backed and want to be a part of making this game a reality!

In continuing our posts of Dino Run 2 gameplay details, today I have a reveal of another playable dinosaur, the...

The Archaeopteryx is a highly versatile and maneuverable omnivore, weighing at around 1 kg.

It is small & vulnerable with low strength. Run speed is medium, Acceleration is high, Jump height is very high.

Special abilities include Double Jump, Glide & Dive.

The Archaeopteryx can reach heights only the Pterodactyl can match and can maneuver through tight caves, crevices and openings.  If played well, the Archy may perhaps have the most advantage overall, but that remains to be seen..

Here's the Archy trotting along with wings up:

And here's an animation of the Archaeopteryx jumping, gliding and diving into a graceful landing:

And finally, witness the beauty and tragedy of nature, as a hungry archaeopteryx munches a hapless Troodon:

There you have it for now! We will post features on the Triceratops and Parasaurolophus next and after that there are still 3 more playable dinos to be revealed. Once we get closer to reaching our kickstarter funding goal we plan to reveal 2 more playable dinos as stretch goals.

We hope you enjoy our updates. Thanks again for looking and please visit our kickstarter page to help be a part of making Dino Run 2 a reality.

With great appreciation,

Next Playable Dino Run 2 Dinosaur Feature: The Triceratops

The Triceratops is kind of like a mix between a huge, horned tank and massive bulldozer. Very powerful, nearly indestructible (except from pyroclastic walls of doom and other doom types, of course). While she is an herbivore, it's still a good idea to stay out of her way.

The Triceratops is slow to get moving, nearly unstoppable at top speed.  Her special ability is Charge, used in toppling other dinosaurs, and smashing obstacles in her way, breaking through trees, cave walls, rock piles, ice chunks, cars, houses, buildings, and plenty more. That ability is important as she does not have much of a jump to speak of. Given enough speed though, the Triceratops can launch forward to clear some small gaps in the terrain.

Here is the Triceratops running:

Here's the Triceratops charging:

And a detail concept image of one charging and wreaking havoc in the modern day streets!

Of course, a Dino Run game wouldn't be a Dino Run game without some dino customizations, and they don't all have to be hats!  In this image, we see a couple possibilities for Tricertaops customization types:

More to come on the rest of the Dino Run 2 playable dino types. Parasaurolophus is next!

in the meantime, please check out our Dino Run 2 Kickstarter:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixeljam/dino-run-2

And please share the page with your friends! Thanks a lot!

Hi Tig Forums! Time for our next Dino Run 2 playable Dino Feature: The Parasaurolophus

The Parasaurolophus is a good looking, well-rounded heavy hitter. At around 2268 kg/5000 lbs, he's a long, tall herbivore that can run rather fast, with a good jump height and distance. his special ability is a Super Jump giving him a big advantage to leap over other dinos & obstacles, and get to higher terrain that only the Archaeopteryx and Pterodactyl can reach.

You may recall the Parasaurolophus from the original Dino Run.  He was semi-playable, as your raptor could ride him and make him jump until he threw you off, but in Dino Run 2 he'll be a full-fledged playable dinosaur.  And yes, a raptor can still ride him, and so can a pachycephalosaurus and the Archaeopteryx. Possibly even the Pterodactyl..

Side note: In the original Dino Run it seemed that the alien race with the mother-ship sanctuary (which you'll reach when you beat it on Insane mode) had some relation to the Parasaurolophus but we're not entirely sure.. see image below, from the original http://pixeljam.com/dinorun

Back to Dino Run 2, here's an animation of a Parasaurolophus running with raptor getting a ride:

Of course, there will be customizations of all playable dino types in Dino Run 2.  For the para, right now we're looking at different head shapes and body patterns.

We will also likely make hats, and other clothing and/or accessory options. While we enjoy the purity of the game with only what is natural to the dinos, making a variety of unusual customizations for our dinos to play with is fun to us as well, and players seem to enjoy it.

Finally, I'll leave you with some excellent concept sketches for the feature image on top, by Emily Lubanko:

There you have it.  A simple rundown of the playable Parasaurolophus, to be enjoyed in Dino Run 2, provided it reaches its successful finding goal so that it may exist!! If you like what you see & this all sounds exciting to you, please back it if you have not already, tell your friends, fellow gamers and dinosaur enthusiasts! We appreciate all the help we can get! Thanks so much!

Kicked it! Had a lot of fun with Dino Run, so I'm looking forward to what's next.  I'm more interested in single player content rather than multiplayer, but I also look forward to being surprised with multiplayer awesomeness that I didn't realize I needed. Wink

And the next playable Dinosaur in Dino Run 2: The Pterodactyl!

We're particularly excited this update to announce the pterodactyl! Okay, so, technically she's not a dinosaur, she's a flying reptile. At first glance the pterodactyl's statistics may not look like much, but she enjoys one serious advantage! As you may have guessed, she can high soar above obstacles and other land-bound dinos! You'll be able to reach prizes and secret areas no other dino can ascend to. Navigating airborn predators and tight tunnels will take expert use of her ability to glide and dive-bomb. While the dactyls position on the food chain isn't too shabby, there are plenty of much bigger creatures ruling the skies to contend with... such as the mighty quetzalcoatlus.

Wiping out as a dactyl is bad news - at only 50 lbs, you don't want to end up crawling through the middle of a stampede. Perfect for advanced players, mastering the dactyl will make you the envy of the earthbound. Those of you who have played the original Dino Run may remember your raptor hitching a ride on a pterodactyl.   When playing as one, you can give out rides to other dinos if you're so inclined!   Carry them to safety for a DNA boost or toss that dead weight and save yourself!

We always imagined that dactyls came in many exotic colors, shapes and patterns. Here are few customization options for you to consider:

Finally, We'll leave you with some rough concept sketches exploring poses for the feature image up top, by illustrator Emily Lubanko:

That concludes our pterodactyl presentation! If you like what you see, please support us by telling your friends about the Dino Run 2 Kickstarter project.

Dino Run 2 3D-Printed Dino Super Eggs Revealed!

Hello! Today we have a concept image of the 3D-Printed Dino Super Eggs offered in our Dino Run 2 Kickstarter ARCHAEOLOGIST reward tier ($75 and above). (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixeljam/dino-run-2)

3D Super Egg models by Terrence Simpson

These will be actual 2-color, 3D-printed Super Eggs that you can hold in your hands and marvel at for years to come, and pass down to future generations!

SUPER-SIZE UPDATE: we are now able to make these eggs In the ARCHAEOLOGIST reward tier much larger than we thought! We specify that the egg will be 1", but actually we are now able to make them up to 3",  with no extra cost to the Backers. That is quite a super-sized upgrade. We will let backers choose if they would like to receive their egg at 1", 2" or 3".

Now, this is similar to, but not to be confused with the HATCHLING reward tier ($175), which, among other things, includes an even larger hatchable, 3D-printed Super Egg like this, but with a 3D-printed 2-color Pixel Dinosaur inside. Nice!! :D We will send out a poll to our backers to determine just what you'd most like that dino inside to be. The lovable and iconic Dino Run Raptor? A T-Rex?  A Stego? A Carnotaurus??

Backers of the HATCHLING reward tier will also receive the Super-Egg in the ARCHAEOLOGIST reward tier mentioned above, as well as more physical rewards and some exciting backer-only in-game customization rewards.

A super-egg filled scene from the original Dino Run

Thanks for looking and please share, tweet, & otherwise tell all of your gaming, dinosaur and 3D-Printing enthusiast friends about our Dino Run 2 kickstarter. We made it real easy here: http://pixeljam.com/share

Thanks so much!

Hello again!

As we attempt to help people get a better sense of what Dino Run 2 will be like as a game, we're making some level design illustrations.  Here's the first one for the Cretaceous Era:

it's a large image, so you can grab it and look at it on your computer, or you can check it out here:

http://pixeljamgames.tumblr.com/post/67011682457/so-just-what-is-dino-run-2-going-to-be-like

Of course, this would just be a small few moments of a single level in the Cretaceous era.  We'll upload more level design illustrations for the Paleolithic and Modern Day eras as well soon.

In the meantime, please visit our Dino Run 2 Kickstarter page! Let's rock these dinos into non-extinction!

Thanks for looking!
