So I not to long ago purchased a nice sound library from a Detroit based SFX group. I have to say I was very happy with my purchased, but something occurred to me that I didn't expect. When listening to some of the sounds, I had a subconscious desire to hear something from Mobile Suit Gundam. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks: Are there any anime sound libraries I could buy?

I went so far as to try my luck on sending a message to Sunrise Inc's "contact us" page. Chances are they wont get back to me because my message wasn't all in Japanese. There are probably a great many amazing sound libraries by American based companies, but I have this horrible bias for Japan that makes me wonder.

So I thought I would pose the question here and an answer could be found. Does anyone know of any anime/Japanese sound libraries that are royalty free for purchase?

I'm not sure if you mean sound effects or actual Japanese instruments but if you mean instruments, I would suggest purchasing Battery and Kontakt. This is my latest piece that just so happens to be a Japanese dubstep piece. It was made using Battery and Kontakt with the exception of the wobble. https://soundcloud.com/jacob-kauble/satokos-theme

I do mean sound effects. From foot steps, to punches, and more. There is a treasure trove of anime sound effects somewhere and I would like to know if there is even a sliver of a chance that it's available for purchase. This is all more wishful thinking than anything else, but it's worth a try to look for it.

I have been researching this also and have a few leads.  It seems Toei Animation was the primary user of the sounds.  I found a few articles on Wikipedia in Japanese and Google Translate only goes so far.  If a translator could translate these articles for us I think we may be a little closer to finding the library.

I think the first article is about two or three Japanese sound designers and the second is about a Japanese audio post production company that did both sound design and dialog recording which stated working with Toei in the 80's.

I think the most classic sound is the sword sound which is a variation on this

I'd love to know where this ends up. Id love to do some research on commonly used SFX in multiple anime through the years.
