Vevera looks pointedly at the blood-dripping chandelier, but Sherman shakes his head. The Bloodhatchet thirst only for fresh blood, heated by battle.

Xearius hands his Potion of Healing to Sigurd, who drinks it all down. He regains 17 HP, bringing his health up to 26/32.

Andreas footles around with his key for a while, just to prove a point. Eventually he opens the door and everyone gazes into the room beyond.

Elevator Shaft

This room is small, cramped, and circular. In the center is a large stone statue of a demon. Its jaws are open wide and the two horns on its head are quite massive. The base of the statue is cylindrical, and has a long, sturdy handle sticking out from it horizontally. Along the walls are strung a variety of complex cables and pulleys, all part of the elevator mechanism. The shaft is lit by strange lanterns, which appear to be some kind of pulsating, glowing flesh.

Wait till everyone gets in the elevator, and then have the strongest people push on the bar to move the elevator. Have everyone else be on guard for any sudden fighting.

I have two empty whiskey bottles?

Dual wield them!

Also, take a closer look into mouth of the demon. (When Brog defeats it, of course.)

Brog rushes into the elevator room and grabs the demon statue. He tugs as hard as he can upon it, but it doesn't budge. However, since the statue makes no moves at all, Brog considers it subdued, and his mission therefore a success.

Xearius, meanwhile, tugs a flesh-lantern off the wall. It shows no signs of running out. It may well prove useful, deeper into the citadel.

Once Brog has finished his withering assault, Knutt takes a look in the statue's mouth. There appears to be some sort of red lens at the back of its gaping throat. With his high Intelligence, Knutt wonders if there might be a way to activate the statue. He examines it, and sure enough, the demon's stubby tail can be pulled to trigger a mechanism. Knutt has a vision of the future: when he pulls the demon's tale, a red laser beam issues from its mouth!

Everyone gets into the elevator under the command of Vevera. Brog, one of the strongest of the team, obediently sets himself against the bar and begins to push. The demon statue rotates slowly, with a great grinding of stone, and the elevator begins to slide downward. As Brog picks up speed, so does the elevator.

Knutt receives another vision of the future. Halfway down the elevator shaft, the narrow space opens out onto a small nook, no more than two metres square. In this space are two enemies - mute guards like those above, but somehow twisted even further by the evil of the Mantis Queen!

Knutt warns the rest of the group as the platform approaches, eliminating any danger of a surprise attack. The platform clicks into place in front of the nook, and the two mute guards leap to their feet. Their skin is red and scaly, and their faces are twisted masks of fury. Instead of conventional weapons, they have huge golden claws grafted onto their fingers. The scars are still visible where the metal was melted to their flesh.

Also, wait by demon tail, pulling it if one of the guards lines up with the mouth.
