-NIVO-

(banner)

Platformer shooter, if Supercratebox and risk of rain had a baby..
Will feature dozens of guns and dozens of different ammunition.
Randomized gun + randomized ammo = tons of different guns.

Current to do list:
  • Implement at least 6 different weapons.
  • Give each weapon their own behavior.
  • Get the drone to disappear and spawn.
  • Working grenades for the grenade launcher.
  • Get the first vehicle to work

Been wanting to start a devlog here for quite some time..

-NIVO- is a platformer shooter, heavily inspired by games as Super Crate Box, Risk Of Rain and the Lost Planet series.
This will be the first ever game I'll finish. I have made some games here and there, but they were mostly rushed and I didnt put any thought in it.
That's why I'm not giving myself a deadline this time. I'm not very good at art, really bad at programming and I work slow.
So about the game,
You start of underground, a few levels below the surface and your goal is to get to the surface.
You do this by collecting Boxes, these boxes will construct a tower once you've collected enough, so you can ascend a level higher and so on..
While you collect these boxes, you'll encouter lots of monsters who will try to kill you, oh and your weapons changes when u collect a box(hehe)
I plan to have a lot of variation in weapons, including vehicles, drones etc.
When you shoot a monster it will drop some energy, collecting these will help keep you alive, since you need these to breath below surface.

So I started off with this....

Which slowly(I mean really slow) transformed into this, when I started to care a bit more about pixelart and changed from gamemaker to construct 2.

When I figured it was time to change the artstyle I went to this:

Well I really liked that style, so I added some grass tiles and made a drone companion.

But then I figured it would be really hard to animate that character, so I changed him to this and added an running animation:

And as you can see, he can only shoot left and right from now on.

That last character sprite is really cool, love the style. The run cycle could use some work though.
I happen to personally prefer fixed aiming to mouse aiming in 2D platformers, but why can't you at least aim up or down?

Thanks!, Up and down aiming is definitely something I can add, I actually had not thought about it.

Here are some sprites;
recoloured the assault rifle, new ground tiles, box and some enemies.

Here's a quick mockup scene:

Still haven't decided about how I'll display the healthbar for the player, does this look any good?

Another mockup, I think I'll stick to this from now on and start working on the actual game again.

@Cobralad     Crap, I tried to avoid that. I'll try to change him a little bit when I have time.

@jlauener Haha thanks, that's really motivating!

Just found out there is a DB32 colour palette, how could I've missed that.
Decided to drop it on the earlier tiles
Is this better or worse? because I kinda like more this way
